Prerequisites

Course Description

An introduction to the patterns and dynamics of group interactions across the life span. Focus includes group therapy, structure, types, stages, development, leadership, therapeutic factors, the impact of groups on the individual, group growth and behavior. Effective group facilitation skills and techniques used to address special population issues and needs are covered. Effective case management and record keeping are addressed.

\ 1.  Arrive to class on time and stay for the whole class period.

\ 2. Make sure cell phones are turned OFF before entering the classroom!   No texting in the classroom.  You will be asked to leave if your cell phone disrupts the class. You can leave your cell phone on vibration mode with professor's permission.  DO NOT LEAVE AND RETURN TO THE CLASSROOM IN ORDER TO ANSWER YOUR PHONE!  IT IS DISRUPTIVE AND RUDE!

\ PLEASE NOTE:  If you leave the classroom to answer your phone, you will not be allowed back in the class for the day.

Grading Criteria

The grade in the lecture course will be determined by the results in two areas: (1) four tests, 80%,
(2) class participation, 20%.
 
            A = 90 to 100
            B = 80 to 89
            C = 70 to 79
            D = 60 to 69
            F = Below 60
 
            *The last day to withdraw or to drop a class/change from credit to audit is April 19, 2012.
            Please feel free to discuss any concerns you may have with your progress in this course with the  instructor.

Attendance

Regular attendance is essential to the successful completion of the course. IT IS THE STUDENT'S RESPONSIBILITY TO DROP A COURSE OR WITHDRAW FROM COLLEGE. Your instructor can not do this for you. Failure to do so will result in the student receiving a performance grade, usually a grade of "F".
