Emphasis placed on capitalization, punctuation and identification of the parts of speech. Grammar usage will be practiced through writing and proofreading.

\ Course Objectives: To increase students’ ability to communicate clearly through the written and spoken word. To develop grammar skills beyond basic sentence structure. To further develop students’ ability to write and communicate orally using correct grammar and details.
\\ Student Pervormance Objectives: 1. Expand knowledge of noun and pronoun usage. 2. Expand knowledge of adjective and adverb usage. 3. Introduce adverbs. 4. Identify comparisons and possessives. 5. Expand sentences using adjectives, adverbs, and prepositional phrases. 6. Learn to combine and expand simple sentences using conjunctions. 7. Expand knowledge of simple punctuation 8. Learn to proofread and correct basic grammatical errors. 9. Introduce imperative and exclamatory sentences.

Please speak English in the classroom at all times. Cell phones must be turned off during class times unless special permission is given by the instructor.
A = 90-100 Excellent; B = 80-89 Good; C = 70-79 Fair; D = 60-69 Failing. One hour of lab per week is required.
The final grade will be calculated as follows:
Exam Grades = 50%
Daily Grades = 25%
Final Exam = 25%
Make up exams will not be given. The lowest exam grade will be dropped. A student who misses more than one test will receive a 0 for the test missed.

Attendance is essential to success in the class; therefore, limit absences to no more than 5

hours a semester. Additional absences will affect your final grade in the class. If you stop

attending class and do not formally withdraw, you will receive an F.
