Course Learning Outcomes:
1. Identify all the elements in the communication process and the major communications barriers, and explain how those elements and barriers are influenced by semantics and perception.
2. Identify and analyze the elements that characterize audiences, compare and contrast group communications with one on one communications.
3. Define and discuss the concept of building goodwill as it applies to the potential barriers to good communication skills and successful management.
4. Discuss the elements invloved in international and intercultural communications.
5. Demonstrate competencies in verbal (oral and written) communication skills through identification of:
A. The activities involved in the writing process.
B. The guidelines and methods used to make writing easier to read.
C. The characteristics and patterns of positive, negative and persuasive messages.
D. The guidelines for effective layout and design of documents.
6. Discuss the importance of non-verbal communication in management.
7. Compare the various formats and approaches available for job resumes, job application letters and job interviews and produce an effective resume.
8. Compare and contrast the relationship of communication and management.

WITHDRAWAL POLICY: It is the responsibility of the student to initiate drop or withdrawal procedures through the registrar’s office. Students who stop attending class but do not officially drop or withdraw from this course will receive a letter grade at the end of the semester.
April 19th is the last date to withdraw
EXAMINATIONS: Examinations will consist of essay, true-false, multiple choice, matching or short answer questions. Final Examination will be comprehensive. Final grade will be determined by dividing total number of points by the number of tests and projects. Instructor reserves the right to subjectively influence the final grade relative to class attendance, participation and attitude.
