Course Description

Instruction in the computer as an electronic darkroom. Topics include color and grayscale images and image conversion and presentation.

-2 flash drives at least 2 gig each (one for back up and one to turn in assignments)
-2 ink cartridges for the Epson printers (colors to be assigned)
-8 ½ x 11” photo quality ink jet paper (types and brands to be discussed)

\ End-of-Course Outcomes: 
\ Produce examples of photographic retouching, color corrections, copy, and photographic restoration; explain the hardware and software used in electronic photography; and organize images in a catalog or database system. (WECM)

\ Specific Student Outcomes:
\ Students will:
\     -Demonstrate knowledge of digital imaging software and equipment
\     -Develop concepts & strategies for expressing visual ideas through digital imaging
\     -Identify & analyze the compositional design elements used to create digital images
\     -Manage digital image files
\     -Discuss their photographs in verbal and/or written form
\     -Present work for grading in a professional manner, as directed by the instructor
\     -Participate meaningfully in critique
\     -Maintain a professional and respectful attitude
\     -Maintain classroom facilities and shared supplies

\ Course Objectives:
\ 1. Demonstrate knowledge of Adobe PhotoShop software, scanning, and archival printing
\ 2. Develop concepts and strategies for expressing visual ideas through digital imaging
\ 3. Identify and analyze the compositional design elements used to create digital images through discussion, examples and critique
\ 4. Present well-crafted digital images in a professional manner that utilize ideas and methods demonstrated throughout the course
\ 5. Write artist statements that articulate the ideas expressed in their artwork

Expected Student Behavior

\ All students are expected to act in a professional manner. Sub par behavior is not tolerated, negatively effects one’s grade, and can result in expulsion from class. Paying attention, punctuality, note taking, bringing the requested materials and prompted discussion during class are beneficial. Unwarranted talking, cellphone use, sleeping, eating, or rudeness are detrimental.

Attendance

\ Attendance is critical to success in this class. Students are expected to sign in at the beginning of class and stay through the entirety of the class to get credit for that day. Leaving early or tardiness accumulate and effect one’s attendance. Each student is allowed three absences, and every absence after drops one’s attendance by a grade point.
