Course Description

General principles of digital image processing and electronic painting. Emphasis on bitmapped or raster-based image marking and the creative aspects of electronic illustration for commercial and fine art applications.

\ • Storage device 2 gb or higher (thumb-drive, external hard drive)
\ • 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 or larger Sketchbook for notes
\ • Drawing pencils
\ • Acrylic Eraser

Student Performance

\ Identify terminology, advantages and limitations of image editing software; distinguish bit-mapped resolutions for image acquisitions and output devices; use digital editing and painting tools; use basic half-tone theory in production of images, manipulate, create, and edit digital images for print and for web; specify appropriate file formats.

Expected Student Behavior

\ - Cell phones will be required to be kept inside your purse, bag or pocket.
\ - No texting during lecture, critique or class room instruction.
\ - No social networking of any kind during class time.
\ - Students are required to come to class prepared with all supplies.
\ - Student are expected to be respectful to each other and all faculty.
\
\ Failure to operate within the above guidelines will result in dismissal from the class and student will not receive credit for that day's attendance. Further action will be taken if a student exhibits a habitual disregard to the above guidelines.

\ Plagiarism of any kind will not be tolerated and will be reported.

Grading Criteria

Projects - 50%
Exercises - 30%
Attendance - 10%
Activity - 10%

• All projects and exercises are due when specified by the instructor.
• LATE PROJECTS and EXERCISES WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. Instructor will evaluate circumstances with each student to determine the consequences of LATE work submissions. Instructor reserves the right to decline the acceptance of any and all late work.
• All projects, except projects that received an (F) for being late, may be redone and submitted for a grade advancement review.
• All late projects and exercises must still be present and complete in the Final Portfolio.

Attendance

\ THIS IS A STUDIO COURSE - YOUR ATTENDANCE AND PROMPT ARRIVAL TO CLASS ARE ESSENTIAL FOR LEARNING AND EVALUATION.

\ ABSENCES
\ 5 absences = no penalty
\ 6 absences = C for final attendance grade
\ 7 absences = FAILURE OF THE ENTIRE COURSE

\ TARDINESS
\ 5 tardies = no penalty
\ 6 or more tardies = 1 point removed from activity grade per tardy after 5.
\
\ • Students will be responsible for signing their own name on the attendance sheet in class.
\ • Instructor is not responsible for student's failure to sign in class attendance sheet.
\ • Failure by student to sign the attendance sheet will result in an absence.
\ • Students my request a review of their own attendance record with the instructor outside of class time.
