\ COURSE DESCRIPTION: An interdisciplinary, multi-perspective assessment of cultural, political, philosophical, and aesthetic factors critical to the formulation of values and the historical development of the individual and of society.

\ Student Learning Outcomes are based on the required Core Curriculum Intellectual Competencies (pg. 230), Perspectives (pg. 231) and Exemplary Educational Objectives (pg. 234) as defined by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. Specific Course Requirements are to be found in the course schedule and course syllabus.

\ STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES (CCIC 1,2,3,4,5,6 CCP 1,2,5,6,8 EEOHPVA 1,2,5,6,8): The following are the learning objectives of all Humanities 1301and 1315 courses taught at Amarillo College. The emphasis of these objectives concerns the appreciation of the fine and performing arts.

\ 1.  To demonstrate awareness of the scope and variety of works in the arts and humanities.
\ 2.  To understand those works as expressions of individual and human values within an historical and social context.
\ 3.  To respond critically to a variety of exhibitions and performances.
\ 4.  To engage in the creative process or interpretive performance and comprehend the physical and intellectual demands required of the author or visual or performing artist.
\ 5.  To articulate an informed personal reaction to works in the arts and humanities.
\ 6.  To develop an appreciation for the aesthetic principles that guide or govern the humanities and arts.
\ 7.  To demonstrate knowledge of the influence of literature, philosophy, and/or the arts on intercultural experiences.

Expected Student Behavior

\ Academic Honesty:All matters of academic dishonesty including plagiarism, collusion, fabrication, cheating etc. will result in a failing grade for the assignment in question. All violations will be forwarded to the proper college authorities for review. Any form of disruptive behavior will not be toleratedAny material copied and pasted from a web source into assignments, analyses, and essays without proper citation or documentation will be considered plagiarism or stealing and will receive a failing grade.

\  Online Student Behavior: All students are expected to be polite and considerate when posting opinions and thoughts in the Discussion Forum. The Online class is not a location where students may post aggressive, insulting, or inappropriate use of language. Any student who violates the required Student Behavior (as stated and in the AC Student Handbook) will result in a failing grade for the course.

Grading Criteria

\ Grading Criteria: It is the student’s responsibility to complete all assigned tasks by the specified due date. Individual assignments are evaluated by the instructor. Students are expected to complete all requirements with no less than 75% accuracy. Incomplete assignments, analyses, participation attendance concerns will be reported to specific department chairs, division chairs, and Associate Vice President of Instruction.

\ Course Requirements:
\ Chapters will be presented in five sections according to specific calendar dates.
\ Assignments, Analyses, Essays, and Quizzes material will be available to students on specific calendar dates.
\ Chapters will be presented in a specific order as stated in the Course Calendar.
\ Assignments, Analyses and Essays will be written in the MLA format with proper college level writing skills. Text messaging abbreviations will not be accepted.

Attendance

\ ATTENDANCE POLICY FOR ONLINE:
\ It is the student’s responsibility to access the course online and complete all Assignments, Analyses, Discussion Forums, Quizzes, and Essays according to the course calendar. Students are expected to access the online course every day to complete all requirements according to the set due dates.
\ Final Date to Withdraw from the Course without a Failing Grade: 04/19/2012
