After studying the material presented in this course of study, the student will be able to do the following as evaluated by the faculty in the department/program.

1. Trace the development of a stable, democratic political system flexible enough to address the wholesale changes that occurred since the founding of the nation.

2. Explain how this national has been peopled from the first inhabitants to the many groups that arrived in slavery or servitude during the colonial period down to the voluntary immigrants of the Civil War era.

3. Evaluate economic and technological changes as they have affected daily life, work, family organization, leisure, the division of wealth, and community relations.

4. Delineate the role of religion in our nation before 1877.

1. Cell phones, pagers, or any electronic devices must be turned off during the class hours.

2. Students caught cheating will have their examinations confiscated and, at a minimum, receive a grade of F for that examination. Additionally, such students may receive a grade of F in the course.

3. No late work will be accepted. The student must complete all required work by the deadline on the course schedule.

Each student will be required to take three exams over the semester. Each exam will contain 50 True/False and/or multiple choice questions. Each question will be valued at 2 points. Each exam will be available online for three (3) days. Each exam will have a maximum time-limit of 70 minutes.
Each student will be required to take 10 online quizzes at My History Lab over that week’s reading material. Each quiz will be worth 20 points, for a maximum of 200 points.
Students are required to attend class each Monday night. Students will receive 20 points for attendance per class time, for a total available of 100 points.
Each student will receive a participation grade, worth up to 100 points, based on their level of discussion during in-class times. Participation points will be awarded based on the student’s level of engagement in lessons.

Makeup Policy: No make-up exams will be given. If an exam is missed, the student will receive a zero for the exam grade. Online exams are open for three days, which provide plenty of flexibility for each student to take the exam.
