Prerequisites

Course Description

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) with an emphasis on airway management. Designed to develop skills for resuscitation of the adult. Includes strategies for managing and stabilizing the cardiopulmonary arrested patient. May include certification.

Student Performance

At the end of this course the student will demonstrate at least a 75% proficiency in the required skills.

  1. Identify and describe the treatment regimen for cardiac dysrhythmias.

  3. Demonstrate understanding of the indications, contraindications and hazards of ACLS drugs.

  5. Demonstrate proficiency in emergency airway management and ventilation.

  7. Obtain a passing score on the practical and written ACLS exams.

Expected Student Behavior

Please make every effort to be on time.  Late arrivals are very disrupting to the class and to a proper leaning environment.

CELL PHONES MUST BE TURNED OFF OR BE IN VIBRATE ONLY MODE DURING CLASS AND EXAMS.

Other disruptive behavior, such as carrying on private conversations with the folks around you, snoring, etc, may lead to your being asked to leave the classroom.  If his happens, you will not be allowed to return until after a counseling session with me and the program director.

Grading Criteria

A minimum accumulative grade of 75% is required to pass the course.

Due to the nature of this course, no makeup will be offered on the written exam or skills proficiency test.

Attendance

Any time you miss a class, it will be your responsibility to obtain notes from classmates.

I will be happy to discuss any information from the class, but my lecture notes are not available for copying.

\

Cases of excessive absences will be handled on an individual basis and will require a counseling session. Following this session, a departmental counseling form will be placed in your file. The purpose of this form is to document that I have made you aware that your excessive absences are jeopardizing your successful completion of this course.
