A study of physical, emotional, social and cognitive factors impacting growth and development of children through adolescence. TECA - Texas Early Childhood Articulation academic transfer course that will partially satisfy the first two-year requirements of a Child Development/Early Childhood baccalaureate degree at any Texas public university.

PROMOTE CHILD DEVELOPMENT AND LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

1) Know and understand young children’s characteristics and needs.

To satisfactorily complete this course the student will:

1. Log in at least 3 - 4 times per week. Be sure to post a response in the discussions area to the topic for each week and respond to at least to other students' responses. Read the assigned chapters in the textbook and use the portal for this course to access online information.

2. Complete projects and assignments in a timely manner. Submit all assignments in the assigned course drop-boxes. No Late assignments past the designated timelines! Some assignments will be open for just one week and due dates will not be extended.

3. Satisfactorily complete exams. All exams will be administered within the on-line course. Missing exam dates will result in an automatic zero on the exam unless prior arrangements are made.

Additional Information

 

Weekly Assignments= 100 points = 10% Students will post and respond weekly to the question of the week in the discussion areas within Modules found under the Lesson Tab. In addition, each student will respond to two other student’s response per week. Please respond to different people each week, so everyone will have someone respond to their response.

Abstracts= 100 points = 20% [2 abstracts per Unit: 2 x 5 = 10 Total]  Write 2 abstracts over topics from the 5 Units. Topic choice is up to the student and may come from any topic discussed in any of the Unit studies. A sample Abstract is posted under Resources (tab). A resource link is also found under the communication link on the homepage.

Case Study= 100 points = 20% Instead of completing a case study of a child, you are to go to My Development Lab and then log into My Virtual Child. You are to "create" a child. This software program will take you from birth through age 18. There are decisions you will make for your child at each age. Periodically, there are questions to respond to. You need to copy and paste these questions into a word document and then respond to each question. I recommend that you answer them as you go through each part of development. After you have completed all of your decisions in My Virtual Child, you will see 100% completion. Your final part of this project is to submit your responses to the questions into the drop down box titled "My Virtual Child" under Module 7. Be sure to save your file as .doc, .docx, or .rtf. I cannot open files which end with .wps. Due Date Friday, July 20, 2012.

Unit Exams= 500 points maximum (100 points each) = 30% There will be five unit exams covering the text material and weekly assignments on developmental stages. Exams will be comprehensive in nature possibly consisting of multiple choice, true false, matching, short answer, and/or essay questions. All exams will be administered on-line. You will have 90 minutes to complete the exam and generally you will view questions one at a time and you will not be able to go back to previous questions. Please be sure you have prepared and have allowed yourself time and privacy when you start the test. You will be more successful with planning and preparation. Please know that your preparation for each exam will help you make the most of your time in the midst of the test.

Ethics Project= 100 points = 10% Read Understanding Ethics in Early Care and Education and complete the activities within the text for each assigned week/Module.
