Tutoring

TUTORING:  You can use SMARTHINKING (click), online tutoring available through the AC website.  Be advised that the Smartthinking tutoring service has a 2-3 day turnaround, so you need to submit work well before the due date to be sure to receive timely feedback from a tutor.

You are also welcome to visit the Writer's Corner (click) located in Ordway Hall to get help with your assignments.

Also, feel free to call me or make an appointment to stop by my office.

Late Work Policy

Late work will not be accepted. We will be moving quickly in this course, so all work is due on the date assigned. Assignments and due dates will be clarified in class and on AC Online.

Under all circumstances, it is the student’s responsibility to notify the instructor of an absence and make arrangements for making up any work that they missed during that absence.

Revisions

You may revise up to two final drafts (not counting your final analytical report) for a better grade. If you decide to revise, you must attach the first graded piece of work to the revised version, and be sure to write "Revision" at the top. You may turn in revised work one week from when it is returned to you. I will regrade the work, taking into consideration how carefully your revisions and edits reflect your own understanding of effective technical writing. Also, should you decide to revise, I strongly recommend you take your writing to the Writers' Corner or meet with me to discuss how you could improve the writing.

Attendance

Attendance Policy

Students are expected to attend all classes.  We will be very busy in this class, and your daily attendance is important to your success. Since this is a condensed summer course, missing even one class can set you behind. We will be busy every day of class, and material we cover in class will show up on quizzes. Writing assignment expectations and due dates will be clarified in class. In addition, a number of your writing assignments will be written during class time--either individually or collaboratively. The collaborative writing exercises cannot be made up.

Students are responsible for signing the attendance roll each day

Absences adversely affect grades.   If you know you will miss a class due tocircumstances completely beyond your control, let me know in advance.  It is your responsibility to get make-up work if you do miss a class.  Don’t ask me for make-up work; ask a trusted classmate.

Withdrawal

If you consider withdrawing, please check with me first for an alternate plan that protects your investment in this course and gives you an opportunity to complete it.  Remember that the deadline for drops this semester is _________.  Withdrawing early from a class could affect scholarship or financial aid monies.  Check with a counselor or advisor before you withdraw from any class.

Students are responsible for official withdraw from a course. Failure to withdraw may result in a grade of “F” for the course.  A grade of “W” will be given for student-initiated withdrawals that are submitted on or before the withdrawal deadline: ___________  Students may withdraw via WebAdvisor, by meeting with their academic advisor, by meeting with Advising Department staff or at any of the Assistance Center counters. Withdrawal requests will not be accepted by telephone.
