PHRA-1309-001 Pharmaceutical Mathematics I

Prerequisites

Accuplacer score of 41, THEA score of 180 or an equivalent score on a state approved test

Course Description

Pharmaceutical mathematics including reading, interpreting and solving calculation problems encountered in the preparation and distribution of drugs. Conversion of measurements within the apothecary, avoirdupois and metric systems with emphasis on the metric system of weight and volume. Topics include ratio and proportion, percentage, dilution and concentration, milliequivalent, units, intravenous flow rates and solving dosage problems.

Expected Student Behavior

Adult, professional behavior is expected at all times.
Academic dishonesty will result in a final grade of "F" for the course. Any attempt to cheat will be considered as academic dishonesty and will also result in a final grade of “F” for the course.
Cell phones, pagers, and any other electronic communication device must be set to vibrate/silent during class.

Grading Criteria

The final course grade will be computed as follows:
*The average of all exams equals 35% of the final grade
*The average of all homework grades will equal 35% of the final grade
*The final equals 30% of the final grade
The following grade scale applies:
A = 90-100%
B = 80-89%
C = 70-79%
F = Less than 70%
All course work must be done in pencil.
The use of a calculator will be at the discretion of the instructor.
Illegible work will not be graded.
To receive credit on calculation problems you must show all work.
Considering that we meet once a week, students will not be allowed to make-up exams, homework, or quizzes. The student will receive a grade of ZERO for anything missed.
**With regard to exams only, the instructor will consider only written petitions for emergency situations and undue hardships on an individual basis. The decision of the instructor to accept or reject the petition is final. The process must be initiated by the student and occur within 48 hours of the missed class period.
