AERM-1303-002 Shop Practices - Aerospace Manufacturing

Prerequisites

Course Description

An introduction to the correct use of hand and power tools; equipment and precision measurement; identification of aircraft hardware; and the fabrication of fluid lines and tubing. Emphasis on procedures for testing, heat treating and inspection of aircraft structures. Also includes an introduction to manufacture of aircraft and its components from blueprints and engineering call out procedures as applied with shop practice standards.

All students are to upload the class computer files from the class computer (ACC 112) and place then in your COURSE NOTEBOOK.

Student Performance

Upon successful completion of this course of study the student shall:

\

1. Identify and deomonstrate the correct use of hand tools.
2. Apply safety procedures in shop/lab and aircraft operations.
3. Demonstrate the use of precision measuring and layout tools.
4. Demonstrate a basic knowledge of the fabrication and installation of fluid lines.
5. Demonstrate the safety procedures for securing aircraft hardware.
6. Identify and demonstrate installation of hardware.

The student will learn the basic skills necessary to identify and use hand tools correctly, apply shop safety and aircraft operations, select and use of precision measuring and layout tools, fabricate and install fluid lines, identification of aircraft hardware.

\ The student is to act in a professional and respectable manner.  All lab conduct rules and lab safety rules are to be followed at all times.

A = 1,000 - 900
B = 800 - 899
C = 700 - 799
F = 699 - 0

You must achieve 700 points to successfully show mastery of this material.

Advise the instructor if you are going to be absent.

Attendance

Missing two full class periods in this course will cause the deduction of ONE FULL LETTER GRADE. The amount of attendance award points per class is per the instructor. Late attendance and early departure is highly discouraged.

Calendar

Each week  will end on Sunday at 11:55 PM except week eight which will end at 6.00 PM on the day of the Final Exam.  Course quizzes can occur during each week of this course.  A class handout on the first class meeting will finalize class meeting dates, possible industry tours and lab date assignments.  Tentitive class dates.

 

Week One- October 22 and 24     Introduction to the shop environment, online research and reading assignments.

Week Two- October 29 and 31     Shop Practices- Measuring (Non-Precision and Precision Measuring), Exam 1

Week Three-November 5 and 7   Shop Practices, Blueprints / Project

Week Four-  November 12 and 14  Shop Practices- Project Go-No-Go # 1, Exam 2

Week Five-  November 19 and 21   Shop Practices- Project Go-No-Go # 2

Week Six- November 26                 Research assignments, Shop Hardware and equipment

Week Seven-  December 3 and 5  Shop Practices continued - Hydraulic lines, Hardware, Exam 3

Week Eight- December 10 and 12  Conclusion and review of Shop Practices, Notebook due on 10th. and Final Exam on the 12th.
