| Requirements |
Assignments: There will be six major sections to this course. Each section will have E-Book Reading Assignments, Original Document Reader Assignments, and Bulletin Board Discussions. Each section will cover 3-4 chapters in the E-Book. All of each chapter will NOT necessarily be covered for the dual credit course. There will be additional notes to cover materials included in the STAAR curriculum at times when assigned. The Assignments will be clearly stated on the Assignment Dates page attached to this class. These reading assignments do not require anything to be turned in for grading (other than the discussion questions assigned separately); they contain all of the materials that will be covered on the exams. Exams: There will be 6 Major Exams over each section of the course. These Exams will be graded on a 100 percentage point scale. These Major Exams cover chapters from the American Destiny E-Textbook; readings from the History I Reader; and additional notes assigned for certain periods. These Exams will be given over the internet with 30-35 questions and 40 minute time limits. This would be the same amount of time given in a regular lecture class environment. There will also be a comprehensive final to cover all material in this course and will be taken from questions given on the previous six exams. The final will contain 50 questions and be given a 50 minute time limit. The final will also be graded on a 100 percentagge point scale. There will also be a topical study guide for the final. These Exams will be scheduled on the Assignment Dates page And for each Section under the Lessons link in the course. The exams will be open on certain dates and the High School Facilitators will pick out a convenient time for their students to take the Exams on-line. The final will be taken during finals week. NONE of the grades for these Exams will be dropped. Therefore you will have 7 main exams including the final and they will count 70% of your grade. Bulletin Board Discussions: There will be 5 Discussion questions posted by the instructor during the semester. They will be graded on a 100 point scale. The first discussion will count for ALL students and I will drop one of the last 4 discussions. The best 4 grades out of the 5 will be averaged together and count as 20 percent of your grade. Student Paper: Each student will be required to write a paper during the semester that will answer an ethical delima question. This assignment is used to show each students understanding of personal and social responsibility in society. There will be detailed instructions given during by October 1st and students will be given four weeks to complete the paper. The grade from the paper will count as 10% of your final average. Grading: Each Major Exam will be worth 10% of the overall grade in the course (70% total). The participation in the Bulletin Board Discussions will count as 20% of your grade. And the Social and Personal Responsibility paper will count as 10% of your grade. |
