Course Description

Principles and concepts of mental health, psychopathology and treatment modalities related to the nursing care of patients and their families. This course lends itself to a blocked approach.

\ Be punctual for classroom and laboratory experiences, and any conferences scheduled.

\ Regularly attend 90% of classroom experience (meaning 90% of the total hours of the class).

\

\ Prepare for class and lab experiences by completing assignments prior to class.

\

\ Review the “Student Test Administration Policy” in the Student Handbook.

\

\  

\

\ Take make-up exam within one week of the missed exam and prior to next scheduled class (or at the discretion of the instructor.)

\

\ Individual students may see their responses on an exam within one week of the exam being reviewed in class by the instructor.  Students wanting to review their individual responses need to schedule an appointment with the instructor.

\

\

\ Achieve a cumulative average of 70% or above on classroom exams. 

Grading Criteria

  

Grading criteria/grade scale

  1. A=90-100, B=80-89, C=70-79, D=60-69, F=below 60
  2. Three module examinations (25% each) = 75% of course grade.
  3. One EVOLVE mental health specialty examination will be administered toward the end of the semester.  Students that score 70-79% will receive two extra points that areadded to the fourth module exam and students who score 80% and above will receive fours extra points that are added to the fourth module exam.
  4. The final examination is 25% of the course grade.
  5. Make-up examinations are to be scheduled with the instructor and taken within one week (prior to the next class meeting) if a regularly scheduled examination is missed.  Make-up examinations may be administered to students who arrive late to a regularly scheduled exam.  Make-up examinations may be partially in essay form.
  6. If you are late to an examination you will have to schedule a make-up examination.
  7. Test reviews can’t begin until all students have taken the specific test in question.
  8. Individual reviews can occur for one week after the test in question.
