Expected Student Behavior

FOOD/DRINK:

Food and open drink containers are not allowed in the Computer Labs.

PHONE/PAGERS:

It is the policy of the Engineering Department that cell phones and pagers must be turned off or in silent mode in the classrooms and the Computer Labs. No Texting during lectures.  Limited texting during Lab time however, if it is abused and becomes disruptive it will result to No Texting.

HONESTY POLICY:

All work must be your own. Any student who cheats on an exam or quiz will receive a grade of zero for that test.  Any student, who cheats on a lab or homework assignment, including copying answers or entire problems, will receive a zero on that lab or homework assignment.

Grading Criteria

Refer to the Course Calendar. Lab assignments are to be performed in class during lab time. Lab time will consist of approximately one half of each class meeting however; this may not always be the case but be assured it will balance out. Please note the labs and homework format requirements below. You are responsible for the requirements. The Final Project will be 15% of the course grade. Labs and homework grades will comprise 10% each of the course grade.

There will be two major exams. Major exams will be administered in class. Each major exam will comprise 20% of the course grade.

There will be a mandatory comprehensive final that will comprise 25% of the course grade.

Evaluation:

The final grades of A (90-100), B (80-89), C (70-79), D (60-69), and F (below 60) will be computed as the average of the earned grades as follows:

Homework

10%

Labs (includes Team Projects)

10%

15%

Major Exams (2 * 20% each)

40%

Final Exam

Absence from an exam will incur a zero unless there is prior notification of the instructor with approval granted or there is an emergency that could not be circumvented. Students who miss an exam because of College or business related activities should notify the instructor before the absence occurs. Make-up exams will be given only under rare, extenuating circumstances and at the discretion of the instructor (after written petition for consideration).

Lab and Homework Presentation Policies:

This class is all about Engineering Graphics whether it is done by hand sketches or printed from a CAD system. In the engineering world in which you will work someday, communication is critical and neatness helps to ensure your communication is clear. All hand written text will be in printed in uppercase using your HB leaded pencil. All drawings done by hand will be laid out in 2H leaded pencil then finished in HB. Labs and Homework shall be presented on the assigned format paper, in pencil, one side only. It must be neat whether it is hand created or printed. If an error is made, erase thoroughly. Homework with scratched out work will NOT be accepted. Each sketch or drawing will be on a new page of its own. Multiple views may make up one sketch or drawing and one page should contain only those views associated to that sketch or drawing.

*NOTE: lf I can't read it, I won't grade it.

We will discuss the labeling of Labs and Homework prior to turning them in.

Grades will be awarded based on the following formula:

HW GRADE = (neatness factor) x (correctness)

The neatness factor is a number between 0 and 1. This means that homework should be both correct (or mostly correct) and neat to receive a high mark. Be advised that if the quality of presentation is very poor, then the submission may not be marked for correctness. Neat and legible lettering and adherence to the above guidelines is all that is required.

Eighty per cent credit will be given for late homework unless prior approval is granted by the instructor.

Grading of Labs, Homework and Tests:

Tests, labs and homework will be graded using “partial credit.” Partial credit will only be given if the student work is clear. There are standards you will learn in Engineering Graphics and you will be expected to adhere to them.

Attendance

Please remember the deadline for dropping a class at Amarillo College during this semester is November 20, 2013. If you stop attending class and do not officially drop the course by this deadline, you will receive an F for the course.

Attendance is essential for successful completion of his course. In order to promote consistent attendance, homework is regularly assigned. Late homework is accepted with a 20% penalty. Homework may be submitted and exams taken in advance when absences are due to a scheduled event.

It is the expectation that students will provide advance notification to the instructor of any absences as a courtesy. Written explanation of the reason for an unavoidable absence and stating the date of absence should be submitted to the instructor upon return from the absence. If and when the instructor considers the reason for absence justified the missed assignment may be turned in.

Additional Information

There is an individual project on 3D object design that will be assigned at the first part of November. The final design of the object will be submitted electronically as an AutoCAD file and due on December 2 at the end of class. When your project is complete in AutoCAD, we will print the objects. The objects will take about a week of submersion in the bath after printing, so the earlier you complete your project, the sooner you can pick it up. The actual rapid prototype object does not count toward the project grade, only the AutoCAD design file.
