Study of human behavior with emphasis on emotional and mental abnormalities and modes of treatment incorporating the nursing process.

Student Performance

\ Course Description:  Introduction to the principles and theories of positive mental health and human behaviors. Topics include emotional responses, coping mechanisms, and therapeutic communication skills.

\ End-of-Course Outcomes:  Describe the characteristics of positive mental health; identify the coping mechanisms utilized by individuals to assist in alleviating stress and anxiety; and demonstrate the use of therapeutic communication skills.

Expected Student Behavior

\ Adult and professional behavior is expected in the classroom.  Cell phones and audible pagers should be set to ‘vibrate’ and should not be answered during class.  Text messaging is not permitted during class time.  Students will not be allowed to use recording devices of any kind in the classroom – including tape recorders and/or video cameras.  Guidelines for receiving EMERGENCY calls will be given the first day of class.

Grading Criteria

A: 90-100    B:  80-89   C:  75-79  D:  60-74   F:  59 & Below

 

Students must have a minimum grade of 75 in order to complete this course successfully.

 

Make-up tests may be essay/short answer questions and must be taken within one week of the scheduled test. No make-up provisions will be made for quizzes. 

Attendance

\ Regular attendance is necessary for satisfactory achievement.  Therefore, it is the responsibility of the student to attend class.  (90% attendance in class is required to pass the course).
