Course Description

Study of concepts related to the provision of nursing care for children and their families, emphasizing judgment and professional values within a legal/ethical framework. Health promotion, maintenance and restoration as well as growth and development are emphasized. This course lends itself to a blocked approach.

\ Students are full partners in fostering a classroom environment which is conducive to learning.  In order to assure that all students have the opportunity to gain from time spent in class, unless otherwise approved by the instructor; students are prohibited from engaging in any form of behavior that detracts from the learning experience of fellow students.  Inappropriate behavior in the classroom may result in a request for the offending student to leave class.

Note:  There will be no rounding on exam scores.  An 89.6 score will not be rounded to a 90.  An 89.6 score will result in a B.  A 69.5 will ot be rounded to a C -- A 69.5 will be recorded as a D.
 
Module 1 Exam -- 23 percent of theory grade
Module 2 Exam -- 23 percent of theory grade
Module 3 Exam -- 24 percent of theory grade
Evolve Pediatric Specialty Exam -- 5 percent of theory grade
Final comprehensive examination—25 percent of theory grade (all students will take final exam)
 
Make-up exams must be scheduled within one week if the exam is missed during the fall or spring semester.  Make-up exams must be scheduled within two days if the exam is missed during the summer semester.  It is the responsibility of the student to contact the instructor to schedule a make-up exam.  A make up exam may include fill-in-the blank, short answer and/or essay questions.

Attendance

Attendance Policy
 
Regular attendance is necessary for satisfactory achievement.  Students must attend at least 90% of lecture and 100% of lab.
