\ After studyiing the material presented in this course of study, the student will be able to do the following:
\\ 1.Describe the different organizational levels of the body from the chemical aspect and cells through systems.
\\ 2. Define the integument system to also include functions of this system.
\\ 3. Discuss the components of the skeletal system.
\\ 4. Describe the four principal types of bones and the histology of both cancellous and compact bone.
\\ 5. Describe the various bones to include markings on the surface of bones, articulations, and attachments.
\\ 6. Contrast the structure, kind of movement, and location of synarthrotic, amphiarthrotic, and diarthrotic joints.
\\ 7. List the characteristics and functions of muscle tissue, to include the structure and function of the neuromuscular junction.

Grievance Procedure:
If a student is having a problem with the course policies or the instructor, he or she should first try to resolve any such problems with the instructor. If the problem is not resolved, the student may proceed to the Mrs. Melissa Bates, Biology Department Chairperson, the Division of Science and Engineering Chairperson (Mr. Stanley), the Associate Vice-President for Instruction (Dr. Lowery-Hart), or the college President, (Dr. Matney), IN THAT ORDER.

Food and drinks are NOT allowed in laboratory areas, NO EXCEPTIONS!
Cell Phones and Pagers:
Cell phones and pagers are not prohibited. If you are in an emergency situation and it is essential that you use your cell phone, please step outside the classroom to complete the call. If the instructor for any reason should feel that the use of your cell phone is disruptive to the classroom, (s)he reserves the right to ask you to turn your phone off or to leave the class while your phone is on. Absolutely no call shall be taken during a quiz, exam, or practical, and cell phones will be required to be turned off prior to all exams. Cell phones are not physically allowed to be on the student or on the desk of the student during this time, unless allowed by the instructor otherwise. In such case, documentation of such allowance will be signed by both instructor and student. Noncompliance with these rules will automatically result in a grade of zero on that quiz, exam, or lab practical.
Testing / Grading For The Semester: Approximately 1,200 points.
The total grade will be based upon both the lecture and the lab.
Lecture:
5-6 major exams consisting of multiple choice, matching, and/or labeling diagrams. Each exam will be worth 100 points, with the four BEST exam scores used for a total value of 500 points maximum.
Laboratory:
There will be 4-5 Lab practicals for 400-500 points
Final Exam:
The final is a comprehensive exam consisting of multiple choice, matching, and / or labeling diagram questions. This exam will be a minimum of 150 questions to a maximum of 200 questions. The total value of the final will be 200 points.
Lab work assignments are worth ten points each.
Grading: %
89.5-100%= A
79.5-89.4% = B
69.5-79.4% = C
59.5-69.4% = D
59.4% or less= F
MAKE UP POLICY:
If you MISS or COME IN LATE or LEAVE EARLY to any quiz for any reason or you MISS the DUE DATE and TIME for any homework assignment, a grade of zero will be assigned for that quiz or homework assignment and that will be your DROP grade for the semester. Each individual request for a make-up exam will be considered.
\ Regular attendance is necessary for satisfactory achievement. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the student to attend class. Attendance will be taken until the census day (January 25,2011), after that date attendance will not be taken.

A grade of W will be given for a student initiated drop or withdrawal on or before March 1, 2011. You may not drop or withdraw after Tuesday, March 1, 2011 without permission of the Biology Department. You must petition the department, in writing, for review of a late withdrawal. This request will be reviewed by the entire full time faculty of the Biology Department.
