Study of concepts related to the provision of perinatal nursing care for childbearing families. Content includes knowledge judgment, skills and professional values within a legal/ethical framework. This course lends itself to a blocked approach.

BEHAVIORAL OBJECTIVES:
Students are full partners in fostering a classroom environment which is conducive to learning. GRADING CRITERIA/GRADE SCALE:
Module exams (3) will comprise 70% of the grade and the final exam will comprise 25% of the grade. One EVOLVE Maternity Nursing specialty exam will be administered toward the end of the semester. The Evolve Specialty/Customized Exam is worth 5% of the classroom grade (Conversion score: %). The grades earned will be based on the following scale;
A= 90%-100%
B= 80%-89%
C= 70-79%
D= 60-69%
F= below 60%
** Grades will not be rounded for any exam- including the Evolve scores.
Make up exams must be completed before the next scheduled examination. An appointment may be made with the instructor to review the examination for 1 week after the classroom review of the module examination.

\\ Regular attendance (90%) is necessary for satisfactory achievement. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the student to attend class. Please review the student contract for specific requirements.
TIME ALLOTMENT:
This course during the Fall Semester will consist of 16 weeks which allows for 2 Semester Hours of credit. Included in the credit hours are 2 hours of classroom instruction and 1 hour of lab experience, which equals 32 hours of lecture and 16 hours of lab experience throughout the semester. Lab experience will be comprised of audio-visual, classroom case studies, and EVOLVE online activities to increase the student’s understanding of the course content.
TEACHING STATEGIES:
The course content will be taught by lectures, discussions, demonstrations, and audiovisual/online aids- including AC Online. Instructors are Level 2 Associate Degree Nursing Faculty.

All students must access the on-line remediation through HESI Assessment after the course’s Evolve Specialty Exam. All students will develop an individualized study packet, and review all areas designated as needing improvement. Completion of remediation and development of a study packet is due by the Friday before the scheduled second Specialty Exam. If it is not completed as assigned, then the student will fail the course because of a failure to complete this requirement.
