Required:  Microsoft Word 2010 is required for this course; it is your choice whether to purchase the Professional version or the Home and Student version.  It is also your choice where you purchase the software.  You might consider www.JourneyEd.com

If you choose to use software other than Microsoft Word 2010, you do so at your own risk.  The above-referenced textbook and this course are written/designed for Word 2010.

    \ OBJECTIVES AND GOALS OF COURSE:  Students will learn to prepare, format, and manage documents; create and enhance tables; and create a mail merge using Word 2010.

    \ By the end of the semester, the student will be able to satisfactorily complete all of the Learning Outcomes (Minimum Competencies) with a competency level based on the completion of required examinations administered under the supervision of the instructor and evaluated according to the instructor’s grading scale in the Office Administration Department.

    GRADING SCALE:  See course schedule.  Course grade:  90-100 = A; 80-89 = B; 70-79 = C; 60-69 = D; <60 = F

    PRODUCTION TEST GRADING SCALE:

                0 errors           =          100
                1 error             =            90
                2 errors           =            80
                3 errors           =            70
                4 errors           =            60
                5+ errors        =             50

    ****READ CAREFULLY****TIMED PRODUCTION TESTS:  Students are required to insert the “current time” (see “Steps to Insert Beginning/Ending Test Times) at the beginning and at the end of each production test; the time limit for production tests is ONE HOURTen points will be deducted from the test score the each five-minute increment past the one-hour time limit; for example, if you completed the test in 65 minutes (5 minutes over), 10 points will be deducted from your test grade; 70 minutes = 20 points deducted; 75 minutes = 30 point deducted, etc.  Students ARE allowed to use books/notes on production tests; however the test must be completed/submitted within one hour to avoid penalty.

    Students are required to adhere to the Online Course Calendar.  All deadlines are posted to the calendar and will be strictly adhered to.  Changes/deviations from the course schedule will be made by email at least one week prior to the scheduled event.  It is the student’s responsibility to stay current, informed, and prompt regarding deadlines.

    There are no incompletes in this class.  There is no “extra credit” to be earned.  There are no make-up production tests for any reason.  Production tests are timed; no extra time is allowed.

    STEPS TO INSERT BEGINNING/ENDING TEST TIMES:

    1. Select “Insert” tab
    2. Find the “Text” group then select “Date/Time.”
    3. At the Date/Time dialog box, remove the check from the “Update Automatically” box.
    4. Select an hour/minute time format, and insert the time at the beginning or end of the test.

    Weekly chapter exercises and assessments are before 11 p.m. the Sunday after they are assigned.  There are NO exceptions to this—no late assignments will be accepted for ANY reason.  Look ahead at your Course Schedule/Online Course Calendar; work ahead to turn assignments in on time.

    You must label your chapter exercises and chapter assessments properly in order to receive credit.  At the end of each assignment, strike the Enter key once and key your first and last name; strike Enter Shift + Enter then key WP (Word Processing); strike Shift + Enter then key the chapter and exercise/ assessment number.  You may label assignments using headers or footers—if you know how to insert them.  Example:  Student’s Name/WP/C01Ex01

    Chapter exercises and/or chapter assessments are to be submitted electronically (as attachments to the designated Assignment Page) through Blackboard.  Each assignment will be checked.  You will receive an email from your instructor with comments and your assignment grade.

    There are five production tests (including the comprehensive final)—there are NO makeup production tests for ANY reason.  Production tests are timed for one hour.  No extra time will be allowed.
