Math skills applicable to industrial occupations. Includes fraction and decimal manipulation, measurement, percentage and problem solving techniques for equations and ratio/proportion applications.

  • Convert between decimals and fractions
  • Use measuring tools
  • Calculate ratios and proportions in a technical application
  • Transpose linear equations to solve for unknowns

Expected Student Behavior

Communication during class time should be directed toward class activities and outside communication should be limited to emergencies only.  Any means of electronic communication will only be tolerated in emergency situations.  Any abuse of this expected behavior can be subject to removal of the student from class.

Inappropriate language of any kind is not tolerated in class. You will be given 1 warning and the next time you will be asked to leave class.

Grading Criteria

Course Evaluations:

Students should complete all performance tasks on time at REQUIRED MASTERY LEVEL. Tasks, projects, and various assignments will be scored based on time; accuracy; neatness; completeness; skill; detail; motivation and attitude; and other grading criteria. Completeness includes all problems to be worked out. If the student answers a question correctly, but there is not any work to back up that answer, it will be counted wrong. Unless the instructor specifies otherwise, all homework is due at the beginning of the next class.

If a student is absent, he/she will have 1 class meeting to get the homework turned in.  Homework may be turned in late, but 5 points will be deducted for each class day it is late.

Attendance

Attendance in class is regarded as a requirement and an obligation for learning. There will be a quiz each class meeting. There will be no make up quizzes unless approved by the instructor prior to the day of the missed class.  If a student misses class, it is his/her responsibility to get the notes from a classmate before the next class and to be prepared for the next quiz.
