Student Performance

\ By the end of the semester the student will be able to satisfactorily complete all the listed learning objectives with a minimum of 70% competency level based on the completion of a mid-semester, final exam and other periodic exams. This course provides students with a unique opportunity to discover the exciting diversity of physical education and heritage, the current programs, and the future potential of the field that they are considering entering. Throughout the course the importance of physical education and sport as an expanding and diverse field of service, enjoyment and employment is emphasized. The student will also:

\ 1. Define the purpose of physical education and sport.
\ 2. Define what physical education and sport is.
\ 3. List educational objectives whose achievement is enhanced through physical education and sport programs.
\ 4. Describe affective, cognitive and psychomotor domains.
\ 5. List the five traditional philosophies and the affect that they have on one’s development of values, beliefs and ideals.
\ 6. Develop and discuss a personal philosophy of physical education and sport.
\ 7. List the careers that are associated with physical education and sport.
\ 8. Demonstrate an understanding of teaching tracks in preparation for a career in physical education and sport.
\ 9. List the various national organizations as related to physical education sports.
\ 10. List the career opportunities in education related fields.
\ 11. Identify teacher qualities of a physical educator.
\ 12. Discuss the history of European, Early American and the modern era of physical education and sport.

Expected Student Behavior

\ Students are expected to behave in a manner consistent with the Amarillo College student code of conduct, and when applicable, Carter Fitness Center policies and procedures.

\ CELL PHONES:   Cell phones are only allowed to be used in class when on the silent mode.
\ All phones may be monitored but not answered for social conversation.

Grading Criteria

\ The grade in the course will be determined by the results in the following areas:
\ 1. Mid-Semester exam- 20%
\ 2. Final exam- 20%
\ 3. Quizzes- 20%
\ 4. Coarse Activities/assignments- 20%
\ 5. Attendance- 20%

\ 90-100 = A
\ 80-89 = B
\ 70-79 = C
\ 60-69 = D
\ Below 60 = F

\ Students who do not finish the course and who do not formally drop the course through the Registrar’s Office
\ will receive a grade of F.

\ MAKEUP POLICY: Make-up opportunities are available to the student. Any missed classes or assignments must be made up by making arrangements with the instructor.

\ REQUIRED EXAMS: Chapter quizzes for each chapter and two exams.

Attendance

\ Attendance is required. Three absences allowed before grade is affected. Beyond three absences attendance grade drops five points per absence. Attendance counts 20% of final grade.

Additional Information

\ STUDENT ID CARDS:  Students MUST use their AC College IDs to gain entry into Carter Fitness Center. Students are allowed three entries without IDs, after three no-card entries, you will not be allowed into the gym/class until a new card has been purchased.

\ LOCKER POLICY:  Lockers will be rented beginning at noon on the third class day of each semester on a first come first served basis. Lockers must be paid for on a semester by semester basis because of the limited number of lockers available. Lockers must be cleaned out by the announced due date. Items left in the lockers after this time will be placed in the lost and found. The center lockers may be used on a daily basis only with no fees. All areas of the fitness center are available during the open times.
