    After studying the material presented in this course of study, the student will be able to do the following as evaluated by the faculty in the department/program:
    The student will demonstrate proficient keyboarding techniques; and apply mailability standards to business documents using word processing software.

    The student will be able to complete satisfactorily all of the Performance Learning Objectives with a competency level based on the completion of required examinations administered under the supervision of the instructor and evaluated according to the instructor's grading scale.

    1. Operate effectively designated machine functions.
    2. Key for a combination of speed and control on 1-minute, 3-minute, and 5-minute timed writings, meeting individual goals.
    3. Key from dictation.
    4. Key and place attractively on the page any business form or letter, report, table, interoffice memoranda, tabulation document.
    5. Key mailable business letter, forms, and reports with enclosures and envelopes.
    6. Fold correctly any material and insert it properly into correctly addressed envelope.
    7. Produce within a time limit, mailable office work from problems including business letters and envelopes, tables, reports, interoffice memoranda, and business forms.

    \ PLAGIARISM, CHEATING AND INDIVIDUAL WORK ETHIC:  The Amarillo College policies and Code of Student Conduct are strictly adhered to when dealing with plagiarism, cheating, and duplication of work product.  Any evidence of plagiarism, cheating, or duplication of work product will result in a zero on the project or test in question.

    \ Plagiarism is considered serious academic misconduct.  “Plagiarism” shall be defined as the appropriating, buying, receiving as a gift, or obtaining by any means another’s work and the unacknowledged submission or incorporation of it in one’s own written work.  All assignments presented in this class must be the work of the student submitting the assignment.  No form of scholastic dishonesty will be tolerated.  Scholastic dishonesty shall include, but not be limited to, cheating on a test, plagiarism, and collusion.

     10% 5-MinuteTimed Writings
     20% Lab Assignments

    100%  FINAL COURSE GRADE

    *Production tests are given on the date listed on the course schedule and tests cannot be made up without a penalty. Please check the schedule carefully so that you can plan accordingly.

    MINIMUM SPEED:  In order to receive an A or a B in the course, you must have an A or a B average AND you must be able to key information at the rate of 40 words per minute for five minutes with 0-5 errors on designated materials.  If you DO NOT reach 40 words per minute, all of grades will be averaged according to the scale listed below; however, you ARE NOT eligible to receive a grade higher than a C.  The 5-minute timed writing grade will count 10% of your final course grade. You must have at least 2 timings that are 40 words per minute or greater with 5 or less errors to establish your speed.

    Attendance

    \ Since this is an online course, attendance is not recorded.  Students are expected to invest the same amount of time as a traditional seated course.
