Expected Student Behavior

In the context of discussions, I expect students to respect each other's opinions and to give each other space to disagree without becoming hostile or angry.  This is important.  I also expect homework to be done on time.

Grading Criteria

Your grade for this class will be based on completion of your weekly homework assignments, your weekly discussions, your quiz grades, and a field project.  Your homework and discussions will count for 40% of your grade.  Your quizzes will count for 40%, and your field project will count for the other 20%.  You'll have 5 quizzes, and I'll drop your lowest quiz grade. Information and instructions about the field project will be given early in the semester.  Your homework will consist of several questions on the assigned reading for the week.  Your grades on homework will depend on how well you answer the questions. I expect answers to be in complete sentences. There are no right or wrong answers on your discussion questions.  However, in order to get full credit, you'll need to answer the questions and respond to the answers of at least 2 other people.  I want good responses, not just "I agree with you," or "I don't agree with you."  I also expect you to be respectful of each other's opinions in the discussion area.  You can disagree with someone without being disrespectful.  I encourage lively discussion and I expect you to disagree, but you have to be respectful.

Attendance

Homework assignments and discussions have deadlines, so students must log into the class and post their work in order to get a grade for the week. If your homework isn't posted by the due date, you will see a zero for that assignment.  Please contact me by email for permission to submit a late assignment.
