Anthropology is the study of human beings in all times and all places. This course introduces the major sub-fields of anthropology and presents key concepts in the study of cultural diversity among world peoples.

\ There will be a discussion question with each week's assignment. You will be expected to answer the question and respond to the answers of at least two other people. The questions may be controversial and may challenge opinions you've held for a long time. I expect you to be honest in your answers and that means there will be some disagreements. However, I expect you to respectful of each other's thoughts and opinions. There are no right or wrong answers.
\ Your grade for this class will be based on completion of your weekly homework assignments, your weekly discussions, your quiz grades, and a field project. Your homework and discussions will count for 40% of your grade. Your quizzes will count for 40%, and your field project will count for the other 20%. You'll have 5 quizzes, and I'll drop your lowest quiz grade. Information and instructions about the field project will be given early in the semester. Your homework will consist of several questions on the assigned reading for the week. Your grades on homework will depend on how well you answer the questions. There are no right or wrong answers on your discussion questions. However, in order to get full credit, you'll need to answer the questions and respond to the answers of at least 2 other people. I want good responses, not just "I agree with you," or "I don't agree with you." I also expect you to be respectful of each other's opinions in the discussion area. You can disagree with someone without being disrespectful. I encourage lively discussion and I expect you to disagree, but you have to be respectful.
\ Students will be expected to log in to the course every week and to spend sufficient time online in order to do the following: 1) read the assigned online material; 2) answer questions about the assigned reading, and 3) answer a discussion question and respond to the answers of at least two other people.
