RNSG-1331-002 Principles of Clinical Decision Making

Prerequisites

Prerequisites: RNSG 1209 and RNSG 1105 Corequisite: RNSG 1362

Course Description

Examination of selected principles related to the continued development of the professional nurse as a provider of patient-centered care, patient safety advocate, member of health care team and member of the profession. Emphasis on clinical decision making for clients in medical-surgical settings experiencing health problems involving fluid and electrolytes; perioperative care; pain; respiratory disorders; peripheral vascular disorders; immunologic disorders; and infectious disorders. Discussion of knowledge, judgment, skills and professional values within a legal/ethical framework. This course lends itself to either a blocked or integrated approach.

Grading Criteria

\ The following criteria will be used to determine the grade: 1. Scale: A 90-100 B 80-89 C 70-79 D 60-69 F Below 60 (NOTE: There will be no rounding of grades)

\ Make-up exams will be given prior to the next scheduled class for students absent from the scheduled exams. The make-up exams will be composed of multiple choice, essay, and/or short answer questions.

\  Students must attend at least 90% of scheduled class periods.

\  Students must complete 100% clinical hours.

\ Time Allotment:

\ Sixteen weeks.  RNSG 1361 allows three (3) semester hours credit for three (3) hours of classroom lecture and one (1) hour of lab.
