An attitude of professionalism, self-discipline, respect, and cooperation is required. Cell phones and unrelated computer use detract from the learning environment. For this reason, inappropriate use oftechnology such as checking email, texting, Facebook, working on projects unrelated to class, etc. during lectures, demonstrations, and critiques will result in a 5 point deduction from the next portfolio grade per event.
Projects will be graded on timeliness, strength of concept, professionalism, craftsmanship, and success in application of creative content. Overall attitude in the classroom and participation in critiques will be a consideration towards your final grade. Deadlines are FINAL. Under special circumstances, student must contact instructor for an opportunity to make up an assignment. A formal written document must be furnished with any request as to this matter. This course is graded on a 100 point scale based on the following percentages: Assignments 50% In-class Assignments 30% Final Portfolio 20%.
Specific requirements for each assignment will be outlined in class.
In order to successfully complete this course it is necessary to attend the class and participate in exercises, discussions, and other activities scheduled each day. Students are allowed two absences without penalty. Three absences will result in a full letter grade deduction on the final grade for the course (an “A” becomes a “B”), at 5 absences two letter grades (an “A” becomes a “C”), and after 6 absences the student earns a failing grade in the course. Arriving late or leaving early three times (during lectures, demonstrations, and critiques) will count as one absence.

Losing work due to failed media or overwritten files is not an excuse for late work. Students are expected to have an effective backup strategy for all of their files. It is suggested that this strategy includes duplicate back-ups of all working and final files. Please note that lab computers can be erased and are not a dependable form of back up. The instructor reserves the right to modify the assignments and schedule on this syllabus at anytime with reasonable notice. Attendance in class is required to stay up-to-date with timelines and project dates.
