Any student who, because of a disabling condition, may require some special arrangements in order to meet course requirements should contact disAbility Services (Student Service Center room 119, phone 371-5436) as soon as possible.
As a student you may experience a range of issues that can cause barriers to learning, such as strained relationships, increased anxiety, alcohol/drug problems, feeling down, difficulty concentrating and/or lack of motivation. These mental health concerns or stressful events may lead to diminished academic performance or reduce a student's ability to participate in daily activities. Amarillo College offers services to assist you with addressing these and other concerns you may be experiencing. If you or someone you know are suffering from any of the aforementioned conditions, you can learn more about the broad range of confidential mental health services available on campus by calling the AC Counseling Center at 806-371-5900. The AC Counseling Center website is https://www.actx.edu/counseling/ . Also, if you are in need of social services (affordable housing, utilities, transportation, food, clothing, childcare, medical/dental/vision, legal), please call the AC Advocacy & Resource Center at 806-371-5439. \ SCHOLASTIC DISHONESTY: Cheating is defined in the Webster's College Dictionary as "taking an examination in a dishonest way, as by having improper access to answers." Improper access includes, but is not limited to, copying from another student's work and using unauthorized sources of information while taking a test. Any student caught cheating on a test will receive a grade of zero with no chance of making up that grade. For a further definition and discussion of scholastic dishonesty, please refer to the Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook.
\\ Phones/Pagers: It is the policy of the Mathematics Department and the Testing Center that cell phones and pagers must be turned off while students are taking a test.
INSTRUCTIONAL METHOD/EXAMINATIONS:
\
Online: Resources include an electronic text, video lectures, tutorials, live chats with the instructor (if requested), homework exercises and chapter tests.
On Campus: Students may meet with the instructor during posted office hours or during prearranged appointments for help with the course material. The midterm and final tests will be taken on campus or at a prearranged approved testing site.
\ \Examinations: Eight (8) chapter tests will be taken online and graded electronically. A midterm and a final will be given during the semester and graded by your Amarillo College Instructor. The midterm and final are free response tests requiring paper and pencil. These two tests must be taken at your high school or at an approved testing site. If you will be taking a test at a site other than your high school, you must make arrangements with the instructor at least two (2) weeks prior to the due date.
\ \The deadline for completing the Midterm is Wednesday, March 19, 2014.
\
The deadline for completing the Final is Wednesday, May 14, 2014.
GRADING CRITERIA/GRADE SCALE: I do not give extra credit work. Your course grade of A (90-100), B (80-89), C (70-79), D (60-69), and F (below 60) will be computed as the average of the earned grades from: Online Homework 10%, Online Tests (highest 7 test grades) 50%, Midterm 20%, and Final 20%.
\ \
ATTENDANCE POLICY: Please remember the deadline for dropping a class at AC during this semester is April 24, 2014. If you stop completing assignments, and your average falls below 60 due to missed assignments, and you do not officially drop the course by this deadline, you will receive an “F” for the course.
