Student Performance

The Online Basic Academic Skills course is designed to help students build basic skills in math. After completing this course, students should be able to:

  1.  Pass the Math section of the GED exam.
  2. Meet the TSI requirement for math and become eligible to enroll in Beginning Algebra level classes.

Students are expected to be supportive of the learning environment in this course. Behaviors that are not supportive include but are not limited to:

  • Cheating or Academic Dishonesty as outlined in “Students Rights and Responsibilities”
  • Using Language that is abusive, offensive or disrespectful in emails, or any means of communication.

Students who fail to comply with the standards outlined in the syllabus and/or “Student Rights & Responsibilities” will be subject to disciplinary action which may include but is not limited to:       

  • Consultation with the Learning Center Coordinator and/or other AC authority
  • Withdrawal from the course and/or the college.

 

Additional Expectations:

This is an Online course, it is your responsibility to:

  1.  Ensure access to a computer with a dependable internet connection.
  2.  To be committed to at least 10-20 hours each week to complete the required assignments for each week.
  3.  To get help when technical difficulties occur. It is your responsibility to contact HAWEKS' technicians as soon as possible.

Please note that I'm here to help you and to ensure that you are getting the help and the support that you need to be successful in this course. If technical difficulties occur or if you need a deadline extension for that week's assignments (no more than 2 days) please contact me via email as soon as possible.

Grading Criteria

You will earn a grade based on the following criteria:

Course Requirement

60%

60% of your final grade will be based on your meeting the weekly assignments requirement. 

40%

40% of your final grade will be based on gains that you demonstrate from your module test average.

 

You will earn letter grades based on the following:

90-100% = A

80-89% = B

70-79% = C

60-69% = D

Below 60% (Unsatisfactory) = F

To view your current course grades -

  • Go to www.actx.edu, click on AC Connect, and then log in.  (If needed, ask an instructor for help.)
  • Click on your course.
  • Click on My Grades on the menu to the left.  You will only see the attendance portion of your grade until the end of the semester.

To view your Final course grades

  • Go to www.actx.edu, click on AC Connect, and then log in.
  • Scroll down to Self Service on bottom right of the page, and click on Current Student.
  • Under current student, click on Academic Profile and then Grades.

Attendance

There is no mandatory attendance required for this course. However, in order to be successful, you are expected to work at least 10-20 hours each week to complete the weekly assignments.

For additional help with this Online class, you may visit the Access Learning Center located on the 3rd floor of the Lynn Library building, Room 300 on the Washington Street Campus.

Instructors will be available to help you during the center's regular hours:

Monday-Thursday:      8:00 am – 8:30 pm                              Saturday:         10:00 am – 2:00 pm

Friday:                         8:00 am – 2:30 pm                              Sunday:           2:00  am - 5:00 pm
