A health-related work-based learning experience that enables the student to apply specialized occupational theory, skills and concepts. Direct supervision is provided by the clinical professional.

Student Performance

\ As outlined in the learning plan, the student will apply the theory, concepts, and skills involving specialized materials, equipment procedures, regulations, laws and interactions within and among political, economic, environmental, social, and legal systems associated with the occupation and the business/industry and will demonstrate legal and ethical behavior, safety practices, interpersonal and teamwork skills, and appropriate written and verbal communication skills using the terminology of the occupation and the business/industry.

Grading Criteria

\ The following criteria and grading scale will be used to determine the course grade:

\

\ 1.  Criteria                       

\

\      a.  Clinical Performance Score--75% of the course grade

\

\      b.  Evidenced-Based Presentation Score—10% of the course grad

\

\      c.  Priority Nursing Diagnosis Care Plan Scores--15% of the course grade

\

\ 2.  Grading scale

\

\      A = 90-100%

\

\      B = 80-89%

\

\      C = 70-79%

\

\      D= 60-69%

\

\      F = below 60%

\

Attendance

\ Students must complete 100% of all required clinical hours.

Calendar

\ One 4 week clinical rotation including simulation days if done on Thursday/Friday.  The   Monday clinical rotation will be 6 weeks including simulation.  These days consist of 12 and 10 hour days.

\

\ Each rotation is comprised of 96 clinical and/or clinical simulation hours.

Additional Information

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

\ \

1.  Achievement of 90% on the Level IV Dosage and Solution Exam.  The exam may be repeated twice prior to the clinical experience. Failing to pass this exam by third attempt will result in the inablility to attend the clinical experience and meet the course competencies.

2.  Students will not be allowed to participate in the clinical experience without current immunizations, TB skin testing, and American Heart      Association CPR for Healthcare Providers. It is the students' responsibility to ensure that all documentation is presented in a timely             manner prior to the cliniical experience. A Class II Clinical Warning will be issued for no documentation.

3.  Completion of all required clinical hours.

\ \

4.  Achievement of 70 or more total points for the combined weighted scores of the Clinical Performance Evaluation of Competencies              (CPEC), Evidenced-Based Article Presentation, Priority Nursing Diagnosis Care Plans, (a score of 0 in any of the clinical performance        competencies will result in a clinical failure).

5.  Submission of all required clinical written assignments.

\ \

6.  Completion of any student/instructor contracts, lab assignments, and clinical simulation activities.

\ \

7.  RNSG 2263: Clinical – Professional Nursing:  Leadership and Management and RNSG 2221: Professional Nursing:  Leadership and          Management must be taken concurrently and both courses must be satisfactorily completed in the same semester.
