After studying the material presented in this course of study, the student will be able to do the following:
1.Describe the different organizational levels, including anatomical terms, of the body from the chemical aspect and cells through systems.
2. Describe the structure and function of the four primary tissue types.
3. Identify and describe the integument system to also include functions of this system.
4. Identify and describe the components of the skeletal system.
5. Identify and describe the types of bones and the histology of both cancellous and compact bone.
6. Describe the various bones to include markings on the surface of bones, articulations, and attachments.
7. Contrast the structure, kind of movement, and location of synarthrotic, amphiarthrotic, and diarthrotic joints.
8. Identify and describe the characteristics and functions of muscle tissue, to include the structure and function of the neuromuscular junction.
9. Describe the relationship between bones and skeletal muscle in producing body movements.
10. Describe the complete oxidation of glucose via glycolysis, ccitric acid cycle, and the electron transport system.
11. Distinguish between intracellular and extracellular fluid.
12. Identify and describe the organization of the nervous system and give the components of each part, to include the histological characteristics and functions of the neuroglia and neurons.
13. List the sequence of events involved in the generation and conduction of a nerve impulse.
14. Describe the structure and functions of the spinal cord and the brain.
15. Compare and contrast the peripheral nervous system and autonomic system, including reflexes.

QUIZZES - You will get two attempts on quizzes. The best score will be recorded. If a problem occurs during a quiz ( example: loss of internet connection, computer lock up, accidently open it prematurely, or you simply forgot to submit it) you will have only one attempt. If the instructor decides to reset the quiz, you will have only one attempt. Also you must finish within the allotted time frame.
EXAMS - You will get only one attempt. If a problem occurs during an exam contact me immediately. I will reset only one exam due to a technical problem or any other reason. After the one reset any other problems will result in a zero on that assessment and it will be your drop. If your computer or connection is weak, please use a reliable computer or connection. Also you must finish within the allotted time frame. GRADING

MAKE UP POLICY
No make up will be given for missed major exams or short quizzes. A grade of zero will be given for any missed major exam or short quiz. NO EXCEPTIONS. If you have a computer problem or a schedule conflict. You have one drop exam to use as a replacement. There will be no other exceptions.
Regular attendance both in class and online is necessary for satisfactory achievement.

GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE/ DROPPING THE COURSE:
If a student is having a problem with the course policies or the instructor, he or she should first try and resolve any such problems with the instructor. If the problem is not resolved, the student may proceed to the Biology Department Chairperson (Dr. Claudie Biggers), the Dean of Academic Transfer, the Vice President for Academic Affairs, and the college President (Dr. Russell Lowry- Hart), IN THAT ORDER.
Effective with the Fall 27 semester a new Texas law mandates that students may only drop or withdraw six (6) times in their entire college career. If you transfer to another Texas school, you do not start over; so, if you drop four classes at AC, then you only have two drops left. If you drop before the census date, then that does not count in the six drop status. As I understand the law, if you use you six drops and decided to try to drop a seventh class, you cannot do so.
LECTURE
Regular online attendance is necessary for satisfactory achievement. Your lecture grade counts (50%) of your total grade for the semester. The lecture grade consists of five major exam grades, online homework and short quizzes in lecture. One major exam and 2 online quiz grades will be dropped. Online homework and short quizzes count as one major exam grade.
Lecture and Lab quizzes may be comprehensive. Each chapter will begin on a Wednesday, and the homework, quiz, and/ or exam, will be due the following Wednesay; unless noted otherwise. The quizzes may be given at anytime during the lecture or laboratory period.
LAB
Your lab grade will be 1/4 (25%) of your total grade for the semester. This grade will consists of 3 Lab Practicals and quizzes. We will meet from 4:15-7:00 on Mondays for lab; except on lab practical dates in which class will be from 5:00 to 7:00.
FINAL EXAM
The final exam will make up 1/4 (25%) of your overall grade. It is a comphrehensive exam that will be taken in class on Monday, December 8, 2014.
