A continuation of the development of cardiorespiratory endurance through walking begun in Fitness Walking I.

Student Performance

\ 1. Complete a medical history assessment and a pre and post fitness evaluation.
\ 2. Set specific long term and short term goals and monitor progress throughout the semester.
\ 3. Keep a daily log of exercise activities.
\ 4. Define frequency, intensity, and duration of exercise.
\ 5. Identify an aerobic conditioning program and progress through it during the semester.
\ 6. Locate the carotid and radial artery for the purpose of counting heartbeats per minute.
\ 7. Determine an individual exercise training zone (target heart rate) using both a chart and the Karvonen method.
\ 8. Learn what the warm-up, aerobic exercise, and cool down phases of exercise are.
\ 9. Become familiar with various aerobic exercise machines (stair, airdyne, treadmill).

\ Students are expected to follow all Amarillo College and Carter Fitness Center policies and procedures. The following is expected as well.

\ CELL PHONES:   Cell phones are only allowed to be used in class when on the silent mode.  All phones may be monitored but not answered for social conversation.

\ 0 Absences = 100

\ 1 “ = 90

\

\ 2 “ = 80

\

\ 3 “ = 70

\

\ 4 “ = 60

\

\ 5+ “ = Automatic F

\ Students who do not finish the course and who do not formally drop the course through the Registrar’s Office

\ will receive a grade of F.

Attendance

\ This is a hybrid course. Attendance and online work is required.  Dates for on campus meetings will be posted on the AC Online class site. Assignments are posted weekly requiring the student to log on to the course weekly. Three on campus meetings are required for the proctored walk tests. If the student is not able to attend the proctored walk tests, a proctor(trainer, coach, or other fitness professional) must be aquired with instructors approval.

\ The Instructor reserves the right to change the syllabus and/or calendar if needed.

\ Week One: Complete all necessary paperwork for course(PAR-Q, Waiver, go over syllabus)  Complete Pre-fitness assessment.
\                       Perform posture evaluation. Begin Interval Training to increase running distance.

\ Week Two: Alter interval training program to increase running distance.

\

\ Week Three: Alter interval training program to increase running distance.

\

\ Week Four: Alter interval training program to increase running distance.

\ Week Five-Eight: Complete Nutrition Component. Alter interval training program to increase running distance.

\ Week Eight: Complete Post Fitness evaluation

STUDENT ID CARDS:  Students MUST use their AC College IDs to gain entry into Carter Fitness Center. Students are allowed three entries without IDs, after three no-card entries, you will not be allowed into the gym/class until a new card has been purchased.


LOCKER POLICY:  Lockers will be rented beginning at noon on the third class day of each semester on a first come first served basis. Lockers must be paid for on a semester by semester basis because of the limited number of lockers available. Lockers must be cleaned out by the announced due date. Items left in the lockers after this time will be placed in the lost and found. The center lockers may be used on a daily basis only with no fees. All areas of the fitness center are available during the open times.
