Student Performance

By the end of the semester the student will be able to satisfactorily complete all of the listed learning objectives with a minimum 70% competency level based upon regular participation in moderate fitness activities and completion of required assignments. Also the student will:


1. Acquire essential skills for making positive behavior changes in the areas of Nutrition, Fitness, Stress Management and Weight Management.

2. Choose and participate in an exercise program throughout the semester.

3. Complete a Physical Activity Readiness Questionaire(PAR-Q) form.

4 Complete a Pre and Post fitness evaluation.

5. Set specific long term and short term goals and monitor progress throughout the semester.

6. Keep a daily log of exercise activities.

7. Identify an aerobic conditioning, flexibilty and/or strength training program and progress through it during the semsester.

8. Learn what the warm-up, aerobic/strength exercise, and cool down phases of exercise are.

9. Become familiar with various aerobic, flexibility and/or strength training exercises which may or may not include exercise machines.

10. Show improvement in fitness level as measured by the pre/post fitness evaluation.

11. Participate in sufficient exercise sessions throughout the semester to show improvement in either strength, flexibility or aerobic fitness.

Expected Student Behavior

\ Students are expected to follow all Amarillo College and Carter Fitness Center policies and procedures. The following is expected as well.

\ CELL PHONES:  Cell phones are only allowed to be used in class when on the silent mode.  All phones may be monitored but not answered for social conversation.

Grading Criteria

\ GRADING CRITERIA: 1. Attendance - 90%
\ 2. Performance Assessment – 10%

\ 90-100 = A
\ 80-89 = B
\ 70-79 = C
\ 60-69 = D
\ Below 60 = F

\

\ MAKEUP POLICY: Students may make up as many as three absences by coming in to CFC outside of the normal class hours, completing a make-up form at the front desk of CFC, and completing at least one hour of exercise per make-up.

Calendar

The Instructor reserves the right to change the syllabus and/or calendar if needed.

 Week One: Complete all necessary paperwork for course(PAR-Q, Waiver, go over syllabus)  Orientation on exercise equipment.
Week Two: Continue orientation on exercise equipment.  Complete Pre-fitness assessment
Weeks 4-15: Follow prescribed walking program
Week Six: Complete Nutrition and Weight Management and Stress Mgmt. Components
Week 16 : Complete Post Fitness evaluation
 

Additional Information

\ STUDENT ID CARDS:  Students MUST use their AC College IDs to gain entry into Carter Fitness Center. Students are allowed three entries without IDs, after three no-card entries, you will not be allowed into the gym/class until a new card has been purchased.

\

\ LOCKER POLICY:  Lockers will be rented beginning at noon on the third class day of each semester on a first come first served basis. Lockers must be paid for on a semester by semester basis because of the limited number of lockers available. Lockers must be cleaned out by the announced due date. Items left in the lockers after this time will be placed in the lost and found. The center lockers may be used on a daily basis only with no fees. All areas of the fitness center are available during the open times.
