Course Description

Anthropology is the study of human beings in all times and all places. This course introduces the major sub-fields of anthropology and presents key concepts in the study of cultural diversity among world peoples.

Student Performance

\ After studying the material presented in this course, the students will be able to:

Expected Student Behavior

\ There will be a discussion question with each week's assignment.  You will be expected to answer the question and respond to the answers of at least two other people.  The questions may be controversial and may challenge opinions you've held for a long time.  I expect you to be honest in your answers and that means there will be some disagreements.  However, I expect you to respectful of each other's thoughts and opinions.  There are no right or wrong answers.

Grading Criteria

\ I grade according to a 100 point system. If you get 90-100 percent of the total points, you'll get an A. 80-90 percent of the total points equals a B. 70-80 percent of the total points equals a C. 60-70 percent of the total points equals a D. Below 60% of the total points equals an F.  Your homework will make up 40% of your final grade.  Your discussion questions will  make up 20% of your total grade.  Your field assignment will make up 20% of your final grand, and your final exam will make up the other 20% of your grade.

Attendance

\ Students will be expected to log in to the course every week and to spend sufficient time online in order to do the following: 1) read the assigned online material; 2) answer questions about the assigned reading, and 3) answer a discussion question and respond to the answers of at least two other people.
