Grading Criteria

See Clinical Grading Policy (next section). Clinical grade will be based on CPEC competiencies, clinical warnings and care plans. If a student is unsuccessful in either the clinical or the classroom clinical, both courses must be repeated concurrently.100% attendance is required in clinical courses. Any time missed will be made up by the student.

Additional Information

\ CLINICAL PRECEPTED EXPERIENCE

\

\ As part of the clinical experience, students will be assigned to 8 hours in a health clinic environment (subsequently referred to as ‘Facility’).  The dates, time, and location will be provided during the first few days of the semester.  During this clinical time, students are not functioning as employees of the Facility, but rather an agent of Amarillo College Associate Degree Nursing Program.  Students must conform to the Facility practices and follow their policies and procedures- available in the Facilities.   As with any clinical experience, students must adhere to policies concerning confidentiality of patient records, patient privacy and dignity, dress policy and parking restrictions.  Students are subject to all rules and regulations pertaining to regular employees of the Facility.

\ The Facility is ultimately responsible for all patients.  They will assist Amarillo College by providing evaluation of nursing students.  Students may use library facilities and teaching equipment that is available to Medical Staff.  The Facility will assume the cost of equipment that is broken or damaged in its normal use.  Students will assume the responsibility for repairing or replacing equipment broken or damaged due to negligence.  The Facility reserves the right to have the students submit to a physical examination if it has good faith belief that there is a question as to the student’s ability to participate in the particular training program.  The Facility will not be liable for injury or illness of a student unless brought about by negligence or willful act of the Facility’s agents or servants.  The Facility will exercise reasonable efforts to safeguard the students as it would its own employees from injury and/or illness.

\ Students will be insured by personal accident/injury by the group policy offered through Amarillo College.  Students will carry professional liability insurance (malpractice) as included within tuition.  Prior to placement in a Facility, students will complete any screening process and training program required by the Facility.

\

\

\ While attending precepted experiences, students will follow guidelines and policies included in the Amarillo College Associate Degree Nursing Student Handbook.  Students will wear their clinical uniform and appropriate identification as outlined in the handbook.
