Engineering 201C
Office Hours:
I will be holding my office hours everyday after class! If you need me during the day, you can see my class schedule to see which room I wil be in and I will be happy to meet with you after ANY of my classes (not just the one you are in!)
** I am also always available through email if you need immediate assistance – please email tgmeraz@actx.edu (You will reach me by email much faster than by my office phone).
You will be provided with my cell phone number (and rules!) during the first class..
Any student who, because of a disabling condition, may require some special arrangements in order to meet course requirements should contact disAbility Services (Student Service Center room 119, phone 371-5436) as soon as possible.
As a student you may experience a range of issues that can cause barriers to learning, such as strained relationships, increased anxiety, alcohol/drug problems, feeling down, difficulty concentrating and/or lack of motivation. These mental health concerns or stressful events may lead to diminished academic performance or reduce a student's ability to participate in daily activities. Amarillo College offers services to assist you with addressing these and other concerns you may be experiencing. If you or someone you know are suffering from any of the aforementioned conditions, you can learn more about the broad range of confidential mental health services available on campus by calling the AC Counseling Center at 806-371-5900. The AC Counseling Center website is https://www.actx.edu/counseling/ . Also, if you are in need of social services (affordable housing, utilities, transportation, food, clothing, childcare, medical/dental/vision, legal), please call the AC Advocacy & Resource Center at 806-371-5439. The AC Advocacy & Resource Center website is https://www.actx.edu/arc

In order to receive your AC Connect Email, you must log in through AC Connect at https://acconnect.actx.edu .
If you are an active staff or faculty member according to Human Resources, use "Exchange". All other students, use "AC Connect (Google) Email".
\ Students are expected to behave in the classroom in a manner that is supportive of the learning environment. This includes, but is not limited to the following: texting, making offensive remarks, reading newspapers, sleeping, asking questions not relevant to class material, working on projects or assignments (even if they are related to this class), or engaging in any other form of distraction. Troublesome behavior will NOT be tolerated. For a full discussion of appropriate behavior and student responsibilities, please refer to the Student Rights & Responsibilities Handbook http://sites.actx.edu/catalog/notices/. In order to receive credit for a course, all material listed on the syllabus must be covered. The instructor sets the pace to ensure that these requirements are met. Complaining about the pace will not result in less material being covered. Students who fail to comply with the standards outlined in the syllabus and/or AC’s Student Rights & Responsibilities will be subject to disciplinary action which may include, but is not limited to: removal from the classroom, consultation with the Math & Engineering Department Chair and/or other AC authority, withdrawal from the course and/or Amarillo College.
\\ Cheating includes, but is not limited to, copying from another student’s paper, using unauthorized sources of information on any assignment, turning in work that is not your own (copied from the solution manual, having someone else do your work, etc.), and allowing someone to copy from your paper. Any student who cheats will receive a grade of zero for that assignment and that grade may NOT be dropped or replaced.
Homework: Expect to have homework every day in this course! At the end of the semester, I will drop your four lowest homework assignments.
Exams: Exams must be taken in pencil and will be taken in class. At the end of the semester, I will replace your ONE lowest exam grade with the final grade, provided the grade on the final is higher than an exam grade. If you miss an exam, it will count as your replacement exam and will not be made up. The final exam score may not be dropped. If you have two zero’s, the final will replace only one of these zero’s. We will have a minimum of 3 exams and those will be taken in the Math Testing Center. You must understand that no exam will be given after an hour before the testing center closes (I will get you a copy of thier hours of operation), and under no circumstances will any cell phones be allowed in the testing center. For this reason you will be requried to sign a course contract before you are able to take any test in the testing center.
Final: Per Amarillo College Policy, a final exam MUST be given - you will recieve a zero for the final if you do not take it. The final will cover all material covered in-class. The comprehensive final will be given in the Math Testing Center.
Make-up: Make-up work is given at the discretion of the instructor. NO make-up homework or tests are given without prior notification AND proper documentation. If you know that you are going to be out in advance, you MUST make arrangements to take the test early. If you have an emergency and don’t know of your absence in advance, you MUST make arrangements to meet with me BEFORE the next class period to discuss what you missed. Students who do not take exams in-class, early or late, forfeit the right to attempt any extra credit on that quiz or exam.
Other Student Resources:
The final average will be computed based on the following percentage basis:
Homework/Quizzes….....20%
Exams………... 60%
Final Exam.…... 20%
Regular attendance is necessary for clear understanding of the material in this course. If an absence occurs, THE STUDENT is responsible for obtaining the information that was covered in class and any assignments that were given. Please remember the deadline for dropping any class at AC is Wednesday, August 6th, 2014. If you stop attending class and your average drops below a 60 due to missed assignments and/or poor grades and you do not officially drop the course by this deadline, you will receive an F for the course.
