Homework : Textbook, Workbook, Lab Reports and Final
Textbook: Required reading is to be completed prior to class, this will better prepare the student for the in class discussion on the subect matter covered in the reading.
Workbook: At the end of each chapter workbook problems will be assigned these work books will be graded with a project rubric.
Lab Reports: Before a project can be started a detailed lab report (process plan) will be written by the student. This graded report will contain such items as materials, procedures, apperance/organization. Other graded items will include spelling, punctuation and grammer. This lab report is part of the students homework and must be completed and graded by the instructor before a project is started. If a student does this in class they will lose valuable lab time and may not be able to complete the project in the alloted time. If a student starts or completes a project without an instructor signed lab report the student will recieve a failing grade for that project.
Final Exam and Project: A comprehensive final exam along with a final project will be administered. Failure to take the final exam or complete the final project will result in the student recieving a failing grade for the class.

\\ Attendance in class and lab participation is regarded as a requirement and an obligation for learning. Students will be expected to be in the class and seated by the start of each class period.Attendance roll will be called out at the beginning of the class and students not replying will be recorded as tardy losing ten attendance points.Roll will again called one-half hour after class has started, any student not replying will be recorded as absent and lose all points for that day.There are times that special circumstances arise but instructor needs to be made aware of these circumstances, the instructor will then decide if excuse warrants merit or not. Attendance will also means that until the end of class or instructor releases the class you are required to be there failure to be present during end of class roll will result in all points for that day being forfeited, again there will be times that special circumstances will be allowed but instructor needs to be informed and the the instructor will decide whether reason for leaving early is valid or not. Attendance also means that student has all the required material for said class, failure to comply with this is described in the below section describing student behavior.

Class 1 Tentative: Review Syllabus: Day 1 lecture. Shop safety Text book section 2 units 1 through 4. Section 3 unit 1. Lab. Review and identify different parts of machine tools. Demonstrate how to cut OD/ ID threads. Objective. Student proficiency in machine shop terminology. Homework. Read text page 427-430. With print found in corresponding blackboard folder, OD/ ID threading, and construct a process plan for that discreet part. (Watch video on threading.) |
Class 2 Tentative: Day 2 Lecture. Text section 5 pages 427-430 thread parts and necessary calculations. Work problems in class. Show how to use Machinery’s handbook to determine thread tolerances. Lab. After reviewing process plan and instructor approval the student will proceed to shop a machine part to correct specification. This is a team exercise each student will construct an OD and ID thread. Objective. Student will interpret data and perform all steps required to machine screw threads to a known standard threads. Homework. Text pages 432-435. Student will obtain print from appropriate folder, OD/ ID threading, and write a process procedure for that part. (Watch video on threading.) |

Class 3 Tentative: Day 3 lecture. Text section pages 432- 435. Work example problems in class include left hand threads and multiple lead in calculations. Lab. After instructor approval of student process plan the student will move into shop and produce the part to correct specifications. This is a team exercise each student will construct an OD and ID thread. Objective. Students will find and, analyze data. The student will then perform all necessary steps required to machine part. Homework. Text pages 436- 438. Student will obtain print from appropriate folder, OD/ ID threading, and write a process procedure for that part. |
Class 4 Tentative: Day 4. Lecture text pages 436- 438. Work thread problems in class and show different tools used to accomplish threading. Lab. After instructor approval of plan student will proceed to shop and machine part to correct specification. This is a team exercise each student will construct an OD and ID thread. Objective. Students will find and, analyze data, then perform all the required steps in order to correctly machine a left hand thread. Homework. Text pages 440-442. Student will obtain print from appropriate folder ID threading and write a process procedure for that part. |
