Course Description

A continuation of the development of cardiorespiratory endurance through walking begun in Fitness Walking I.

\ Clothing appropriate for walking.  Walking shoes.

Student Performance

By the end of the semester the student will be able to satisfactorily complete all of the listed learning objectives with a minimum 70% competency level based upon regular participation in moderate fitness activities and completion of required assignments. Also the student will:


1.Complete a Physical Activity Readiness Questionaire.
2. Set specific long term and short term goals and monitor progress throughout the semester.
3. Keep a daily log of exercise activities.
4. Determine fitness level based upon a one mile walking test.
5. Identify a walking program and progress through it during the semester.
6. Locate the carotid and radial artery for the purpose of counting heart beats per minute.
7. Determine an individual exercise training zone (target heart rate) using either a chart and the Karvonen method.
8. Complete all assignments weekly as listed by date in the COURSE CONTENT(accessed through "course content" link on homepage).
9. Acquire essential skills for making positive behavior changes in the areas of Nutrition, Fitness, Stress Management and Weight
Management.

Expected Student Behavior

\ To be discussed in class. All students will follow the policies of Carter Fitness Center while attending lecture classes/labs.

\ ABSENTEE POLICY:
\ Three make-ups allowed.  After make-ups:

\

\ 0 absence = A
\ 1 absence = B
\ 2 absences = C
\ 3 absences = D
\ 4 or more absences = F
\
\ Make-ups:  Pick up make-up form at front desk at the Carter Fitness Center.  Participate in physical activity for 1 hour.  Check out with the front desk upon completion of make-up. 

Calendar

\ Week One: Complete all necessary paperwork for course(PAR-Q, Waiver, go over syllabus)  Orientation on exercise equipment.
\ Week Two: Continue orientation on exercise equipment.  Complete Pre-fitness assessment
\ Weeks 4-15: Follow prescribed walking program
\ Week Six: Complete Nutrition and Weight Management and Stress Mgmt. Components
\ Week 16 : Complete Post Fitness evaluation
