Prerequisites: BIOL 2401 and HITT 1305
Corequisites: VNSG 1136, VNSG 1138, VNSG 1423, VNSG 1227, VNSG 1231, VNSG 1260 and VNSG 1400
Introduction to the nursing profession including history, standards of practice, legal and ethical issues and role of the vocational nurse. Topics include mental health, therapeutic communication, cultural and spiritual diversity, nursing process and holistic awareness.

1. Identify legal implications and ethical issues involved in the practice of vocational nursing.
2. Identify the various aspects of transcultural nursing.
3. Present the nursing process and the means for developing, implementing and evaluating a nursing care plan for man in his environment.
4. Develop an awareness of various methods of delivering care in the current health care community.
5. Identify nursing responsibilities in the care of the client undergoing special tests and procedures.

Adult and professional behavior is expected in the classroom. Cell phone and sudible pagers should be set to "vibrate" and should not be answered during class. Make-up exams may be essay/short answer questions and must be taken within one week of the scheduled test. Make-up exams may result in a deduction of 10 points at the discretion of the instructor. Failure to notify instructor of a missed exam may result in a grade of 0 for that exam.
