Course Description

Principles and concepts of mental health, psychopathology and treatment modalities related to the nursing care of patients and their families. This course lends itself to a blocked approach.

Expected Student Behavior

Civility Statement: Students are full partners in fostering a classroom environment which is conducive to learning.  In order to assure that all students have the opportunity to gain from time spent in class, unless otherwise approved by the instructor; students are prohibited from engaging in any form of behavior that detracts from the learning experience of fellow students. Inappropriate behavior in the classroom may result in a request for the offending student to leave class. See “Professional Conduct” and the “ANA Code of Ethics” in the ADN Student Handbook, and “Student Conduct and Responsibilities” in the AC Students Rights and Responsibilities.

Grading Criteria

  1. A=90-100, B=80-89, C=75-79, D=60-69, F=below 60
  2. The will be three module exams worth 25% each.  A HESI specialty exam worth 5% and a final worth 20%.
  3. HESI remediation is required and the hours is based on your HESI score:

1000 or higher, no remediation is required, but it is still recommended

900 -999 = 1 hour

  • 800-899= 2 hours
  • 700-799= 3 hours
  • 600-699= 4 hours
  • 500-599= 5 hours
  • 400-499= 6 hours
  • 300-399= 7 hours

Attendance

Regular classroom attendance (90%) is required to meet the course objectives.  The 90% includes classroom and laboratory activities.
