Course Description

Principles and concepts of mental health, psychopathology and treatment modalities related to the nursing care of patients and their families. This course lends itself to a blocked approach.

Review and follow Student Test Administration Policy in the Student Handbook

A student achieving 75% or less on a module exam must schedule an individual test review with their instructor within one week of the exam.  This is a course requirement.  Failure to complete this task will result in course failure.

Achieve a cumulative average of 75% or above to pass the course

\
\

Must attend 90% of class meeting times to meet attendance requirement, this is 2 class periods.  Not meeting this requirement will result in course failure. Please notify instructor of record if you are absent

It is the students responsibility to review and/or obtain the missed material from a peer

HESI specialty exam review and remediation is mandatory.  Your remediation is due by the Friday before the final

Grading Criteria

  1. A=90-100, B=80-89, C=75-79, D=60-69, F=below 60
  2. Three module examinations (23.33% each) = 70% of course grade.
  3. One EVOLVE mental health specialty examination will be administered toward the end of the semester.  HESI specialty exam for 5% of course. 
  4. HESI remediation (remediation time is based upon specialty exam score) is to be completed by the Friday before the final exam as verified by the instructor.
  5.   > 900= 1 hour
  6.   800-899= 2 hours
  7.   700-799= 3 hours
  8.   600-699= 4 hours
  9.   500-599= 5 hours
  10.   400-499= 6 hours
  11.   300-399= 7 hours
  12. Remediation is a course requirement, if remediation is not completed you can’t pass the course.
  13. The final examination is 25% of the course grade.
  14. All students are to take the final to achieve their final points for the course grade.
  15. There is no rounding of grades.
  16. Make-up examinations are to be scheduled with the instructor and taken within one week (prior to the next class meeting) if a regularly scheduled examination is missed.  Make-up examinations may be administered to students who arrive late to a regularly scheduled exam.  Make-up examinations may be partially in essay form.
  17. If you are late to an examination you will have to schedule a make-up examination.

Attendance

Regular classroom attendance (90%) is required to meet the course objectives.  The 90% includes classroom and laboratory activities.
