Log in using the AC Connect Portal

In order to receive your AC Connect Email, you must log in through AC Connect at https://acconnect.actx.edu .

If you are an active staff or faculty member according to Human Resources, use "Exchange". All other students, use "AC Connect (Google) Email".

Expected Student Behavior

Cell phones and pagers WILL be silenced during scheduled class and lab times.

Drinks may be allowed during lecture portion of class at the student desks. No food or drinks are allowed in the computer lab desks. No jewelry, shorts, sandals or flip-flops allowed in classes. Absolutely no horse play allowed

Notebook & Class Equipment:

Students are required to take notes during lectures, and to turn in a notebook for grading prior to the final exam. Articles, accumulated information, and useful reference material that pertain to relative course topics will be counted towards the notebook grade. Notebook should contain handouts, formula sheets, tests, assignments, task list and syllabus. All items will be graded from the notebook.

 

Shop Policy:

Read safety handouts provided, use common sense, maintain safe shop practices, keep your Lab clean, and orderly. Keep all safety shields/guards, and equipment in place at all times. Notify your Instructor of faulty wiring/equipment, worn or damaged tools, or missing parts. No horseplay is allowed whatsoever. Academic disciplinary measures will be promptly administered to offending person(s). Please help the Instructor to maintain order so that he can be free to use your time for more effective teaching, and less time housekeeping. We all can enjoy the benefits of an effective and conducive learning environment. Remember to use your safety glasses when entering the shop area. Always perform proper Lock-out / Tag-out.

 

Tools & Equipment:

Failure to bring needed equipment will count as an absence. All tools should be properly used and cared for, thus allowing for longevity and safety of both the user and the tool.

Stealing, vandalism, or pilferage will be dealt with severely!! No drugs, tobacco, drinks, or food allowed!

Amarillo College Technical Education

Code of Professional Conduct:

Amarillo College has the responsibility to provide you with the education, training and “hands on” practice to become a professional in your chosen field.  The instruction, equipment, facilities and apparatus are provided for your use.  Studying, practicing and learning are required by you.

As a participating student in Amarillo College Technical Programs, you will be expected to act, perform and train in a professional manner.  The following rules and guidelines are to be followed by everyone.

Attendance:

Unless it is an emergency, it is highly recommended that you do not miss class. Recovery of missed information will be the responsibility of the student. Class begins at the scheduled time. If you are not in your seat in class or at the designated location during laboratory exercises, you will be counted as tardy. The student will be required to show an acceptable understanding of the topic(s) covered during their absence. Check syllabus for your instructor’s policy regarding attendance.

Professional Attire:

Every student will be required to wear an approved AC logo shirt to both class and lab. Shirts must be ordered through your advisor during the registration period. It is recommended that each student purchase one shirt for every class in which they are registered. 

Pants will be:

·         clean and well maintained

·         no large rips or tears

·         held at the waist (i.e. no sagging)

·         blue jeans or long pants  (no sweats/exercise pants)

·         have no hanging chains/loose strings (safety issue)

You are expected to reflect the dignity, pride and respectfulness of an industry professional.  As a representative of Amarillo College’s Technical Education Program you shall wear your AC logo shirt while in the classroom and on the training field or in the laboratory. 

There will be no caps, hats, bandanas, beanies, or hoods allowed to be worn in the classroom. Lab attire will be determined by your instructor. Please check your syllabus.

Your Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) shall be worn when indicated by the instructor in charge during any training, field, or laboratory exercises.  It is your responsibility to keep your equipment clean and in good shape.

Required professional attire is mandatory for class and laboratory participation. 

Tools / Equipment / Books / Supplies / PPE:

You must show up to class with the required list of tools/equipment/books/supplies/PPE listed on your syllabus in order to be allowed to participate and earn credit for the day.

Conduct:

Due to the importance of maintaining a safe atmosphere in the training field/laboratory environment as well as in the classroom, any disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.  All students are expected to be respectful, courteous, attentive and quiet in order to support the learning environment. 

There shall be no smoking except in designated areas and during designated breaks.

Students shall refrain from the use of abusive or slanderous language.  There is to be no horseplay, fighting, harassment or misconduct by anyone.  Any student who uses, has in their possession, or is under the influence of illegal drugs or alcohol on campus or at the training field will immediately be turned over to the campus police for appropriate action.  This will be a ZERO tolerance policy with immediate steps taken toward withdrawal from Amarillo College.

Anyone who is caught cheating on an exam or quiz will immediately be excused from class and not allowed to return.  This is an Amarillo College rule and will be strictly enforced.  This applies to plagiarism as well.

 

Electronic Devices:

All electronic devices which produce audible sounds must be silenced during class and on the laboratory/training field.  All visual slides and materials are the property of the instructor and may be copyright protected, hence no photocopy is allowed.

Grievances:

Any student who feels that there is a conflict with a course instructor should first make every effort to resolve that matter with the instructor.  If you are unable to resolve differences then you should seek resolution from the immediate supervisor of the instructor or the course coordinator.

 

NOTE: Compliance with the Amarillo College Technical Education Code of Professional Conduct is mandatory for class participation. 

Grading Criteria

 

Course Evaluations:

 

Students should complete all performance tasks on time at REQUIRED MASTERY LEVEL. Tasks, projects, and various assignments will be scored based on time; accuracy; neatness; completeness; procedure; skill; detail; motivation and attitude; safety practices; clean up; care of manuals, logbooks, and references; and other grading criteria. No task score shall be recorded until assignment is complete. Complete shall include condition and cleanliness of equipment; clean up of work areas; tool condition and return; all projects, supplies and materials being stored properly. Failure to bring books, notes, notebook, and equipment for a given class will result in a loss of grade for that class period. Unless the instructor specifies otherwise, all homework is due at the beginning of the next class.

The final overall grade will be computed by adding the points earned as follows:

Students are responsible for getting notes from other students when absent. Lab activities will continue on schedule. There will not be special lab sessions or classes. Missing lab activities may prevent individuals from performing advanced lab exercises for safety and expense reasons.

 INSTRUCTOR'S STATEMENT:  As your instructor, I am always willing to discuss your grades with you and explain how your grade was determined.  If a grading error has been made on my part, I am always willing to correct the error.

Attendance

Attendance:

Attendance in class is regarded as a requirement, and obligation for learning. Please remember the deadline for dropping a class at AC 12/03/14.

If you fail to attend regularly, and do not officially drop the course by that deadline, you will receive an “F” for the course.

Five absences will result in the student being advised to officially withdraw from the course by the instructor.

Students must sign in upon arrival and sign out when they leave. Failure to sign in or out will result in a "0" for that day's attendance. If a student needs to leave before officially being excused, he or she must let the instructor know before signing out. Showing up late or leaving early will result in loss of points for the day.

Mid term and final exam days are mandatory attendance days. There are no excused abscenses and make up exams.

Abscenses during other scheduled exams will be reviewed by instructor for consideration of a make up exam outside of regular class time.

It is the responsibility of the student to gain any materials missed in class as a result of their absence(s). In the case a student misses, the material will be found on ACConnect or your fellow students.

It is the responsibility of the student to attend scheduled open computer lab times to makeup missed computer labs due to absences.

CLASSROOM AND LAB CONDUCT POLICY

 

 

The number one thing to remember in my class is respect each other.

 

I try to keep a loose, laid-back attitude in my classes with plenty of open discussion during and after lectures. If any one becomes too disruptive, they will be asked to leave the class and to meet with me after class for a private discussion. Failure to follow the conduct policy will result in grade reduction or other disciplinary action.

 

Rules

1.    No chewing tobacco, snuff, dip, sun flower seeds or anything else that requires the use of a spit cup.

2.    In the class room you may bring in drinks; however, if any cups, empty bottles, glasses, and etc... are left for me or the janitorial staff to pick up, this privilege will be rescinded. There will be no drinks or food allowed in the labs.

3.    No horse play will be tolerated in either the class or labs.

4.    Do not interrupt when someone is talking to me or visa-versa. If you want to make a comment in a discussion, wait for a pause in the action or raise your hand and I will call on you.

5.    During my lecture, if you missed something or did not understand something, you may interrupt me for clarification.

6.    When walking in the halls during breaks or when going to the lab, keep your voices very low as there are other classes going on.

7.    If you smoke, you must wait until a break and then go outside the building. DO NOT THROW YOUR BUTTS ON THE GROUND.

8.    Cell phones will be turned off or silenced. Cell phone calculators will not be allowed. There will be no texting. If it becomes necessary, you will have two options: surrender your phone to me during class or leave the class for the day. During tests, quizes, mid-term, and finals you will turn your phones off and place them on the desk in front of you. They will remain there until you turn in your test. Failure to follow this policy will result in a zero on your exam.

9.    In the labs do not touch any project or equipment unless you are instructed to. You could ruin someone’s project or get into something that will get you hurt.

10.   During labs, you will stay with your own project station and leave everyone else alone unless you are invited or instructed to assist someone else.

11.   Do not wonder the halls during lab. If you do without permission you will be warned then if necessary asked to leave for the day.

12.   Any and all safety procedures that I instruct will be adhered to.

13.   BE ON TIME! & DON’T LEAVE EARLY WITHOUT CHECKING WITH ME.

14.   The required text book for this course will be brought to every class beginning no later than the third session. Failure to bring book will result in points reduction of daily grade.

15.   Required tools will be available at all lab sessions. If you don’t bring your tools, you may be asked to leave and points will be deducted for the day’s lab session.

16.  You must wear your uniform shirt and it must be tucked in.
