Welcome to Pharmacology and Administration of Medications.
Success in this class in contingent upon the following:
Complete all reading assignments.
No make-up quizzes will be given if the student failed to take the quiz.
No make-up exams will be given if the student failed to take the exam.
Homework assignments. 15% of the total points earned will be deducted for work turned in late NO work will be accepted after it is 1 week late
Competencies. Students must complete satisfactory competency checklists prior to taking the final exam.
Midterm Paper. Each student will submit a midterm paper covering the certain drug or class of drugs that will be assigned by the instructor.
CHECK CALENDAR FOR DUE DATES. Early papers will be accepted. The paper must be typed, double-spaced, two to four pages long. A minimum of three references should be used to derive the content of the paper. There references can include Internet sites, PDR, drug inserts, and so on. Wikipedia is not an acceptable resource.
Late papers will not be accepted
Upon completion of this course, the students will attain the following outcomes:
Cognitive
1. Define terminology associated with basic pharmacology.
2. Identify the regulatory bodies responsible for drug safety and reporting.
3. Compare and contrast the mechanism of action, indications for, and side effects of various selected drug agents classified by body systems and/or drug function.
4. Identify action, dose ranges, therapeutic uses, adverse effects, and drug interactions of the common classes of drugs.
5. Select the administration route for the common classes of drugs.
Behavior/Skills
1. Use drug references to obtain information on unfamiliar drugs.
2. Calculate drug dosages.
3. Classify drugs according to their action and body system affected.
4. Interpret medication orders.
Values/ Attitudes
1. Discuss ethical issues and professional standards related to drug prescriptions, dispensing, and administration.
2. Describe alternative health measures and lifestyle changes that promote health.

Students are expected to act in a professional manor while in the classroom and participating in any activity related to the CMA Program on or off campus.
This includes all courses associated with this program.
When you are at practicum sites you are expected to be dressed in your assigned uniform, clean and well groomed. If you are not you will be sent home without credit for that day. If it happens a second time you will be dropped from the course with a failing grade.

Grade of 90 to 100 is "A"
Grade of 80 to 89.9 is "B"
Grade of 70 to 79.9 is "C"
Grade of 69.9 and below is "F"
Late assignments will have the grade reduced by 15% for 1 week. Assignments that are more than 1 week late will not recieve a grade.
No time extensions will be given for exams or quizzes
If you score below a 70 on any exam or quiz you will be required to retake the exam or quiz in the Learning Center on West Campus.
If you score below a 70 on any math quiz you will be required to go to the math lab on Washington Campus for no less than 30 minuets before retaking the math quiz.
The retake exam or quiz will not be the same questions as the original, but will cover the same material.
Regular attendance is required for the student to attain the knowledge needed to become a successful Medical assistant.
Attendance will be 5% of your grade in this course.
No time extensions will be given for exams or quizzes
Students are expected to read the assigned chapters and do homework prior to coming to class. This will allow us to use class time to gain a better understanding of the material.
Assignments turned in late will have the grade reduced by 15%. After 7 days the assignments will receive a 0
There will be weekly vocabulary/math quizzes proctored at the Learning Center on West Campus, calculators will be provided by the learning center.
