    Student Performance

    \ After studying the material presented in this course of study, the student will be able to do the following as evaluated by the faculty in the department/program.

    \ The student will demonstrate proper keyboarding techniques including touch technique; demonstrate an acceptable level of keyboarding skills with a minimum speed of 30 words per minute (wpm) with minimum proficiency; apply proofreading and editing skills; and create basic documents.

    \ The student will be able to do the following as evaluated by the faculty in the Office Administration Department.

    Expected Student Behavior

    \ PLAGIARISM, CHEATING AND INDIVIDUAL WORK ETHIC:  The Amarillo College policies and Code of Student Conduct is strictly adhered to when dealing with plagiarism, cheating and duplication of work product.  Any evidence of plagiarism, cheating or duplication of work product will result in a zero on the project or test in question.

    Grading Criteria

    To determine final course grade, add:

    30%—Performance Assessment Problem Avg.
    20%—Performance Assessment Production Avg.
    20%—Lab Assignments (Ten points will be deducted for each class day the assignment is late.)
    30%—Timed Writings*

    100%—FINAL COURSE GRADE

    LAB ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS:
    All lab assignments are due at the beginning of the next class after they were assigned.  Place assignments in the box labeled “Cargill” in BYRD 212 or give them to your instructor during class.  Ten points will be deducted for each class day the assignment is late.

    Performance Assessments (Problems) Grading Scale:

    0 errors = 100
    1 error   =  90
    2 errors =  80
    3 errors =  70
    4 errors =  60
    5 errors =  50

    MINIMUM SPEED: In order to receive an “A” or a “B” in the course, you must have an “A” or “B” average AND you must be able to key timed writings at the minimum rate of 30 words per minute for five minutes with 0 – 5 errors on designated materials. If you DO NOT reach 30 words per minute, all your grades will be averaged according to the scale listed below; however, you ARE NOT eligible to receive a grade higher than a “C” UNLESS you reach 30 words per minute for five minutes with 0 – 5 errors on designated materials on a minimum of two timed writings.

    *TIMED WRITINGS – Your two best 5-minute timed writings within the specified speed and error range will be averaged to determine your final Timed Writing grade for the semester based on the following scale:
    A = 43 or more      0-5 errors
    B = 38 – 42           0-5 errors
    C = 33 – 37           0-5 errors
    D = 30 – 32           0-5 errors
    F = Under 30         0-5 errors

     

    Attendance

    \ DEPARTMENTAL ATTENDANCE POLICY:  Employees in the business world are expected to be at work promptly each day; therefore, students in business classes are expected to be in class promptly each day.  This class meets twice per week.  After two absences for any reason, 1 point will be deducted from the semester average for two absences.  There are no excused absences.  Two tardies equal one absence.  If you are more than 5 minutes late to a class, it will be counted as a tardy.
