      Student Performance

      \

\ At the completion of this course, the student will have demonstrated sufficient mastery of the course objectives, listed at the beginning of each text chapter, to effectively assess and manage patients. It is desired that course goals be accomplished to the extent that the student’s final grade is not less than a grade of “C” as evaluated by the program faculty. A final grade less than “C” will result in failure of the course.

      \

\ For those who are still pursuing National and/or State EMT-Basic certifications, you must provide documentation of this certification by April 15th of this semester in order to remain enrolled in EMSP 1438, 1455, and 1456.

      \

\ This is in response to the Texas Administrative Code, Title 25, Part 1, Chapter 157, Subchapter C, Rule §157.32 which states, "Certification as an EMT-Basic shall be required prior to beginning field and clinical rotations in an EMT-I course". Note: The Amarillo College refund dates will likely have passed. As such, NO REFUND WILL BE POSSIBLE.

      Grading Criteria

      Assignment Percentages of Grade

      • Quizzes                   =  15% of final average
      • Lab Participation      =  10%  of final average
      • Major Exams           =  45% of final average
      • Final Exam              =  30% of final average

      Fisdap Maintenance:

A 1-point deduction from your FINAL average will be taken for each "late entry" Fisdap email I receive regardless of the class in which it occurred.

Furthermore, each student is required to sign-up for FISDAP lab schedules PRIOR to the announce deadline. If a student does not do so, the student will be advised to withdraw from the course or receive a grade of "F" for the course.

Remember: Fisdap requires a one-time fee of $80 to establish a student's account.

      Grading Scale:

      • A = 89.5% and up
      • B = 79.5% - 89.4%
      • C = 69.5% - 79.4%
      • F = 69.4% and below

A student who will not complete a Major Exam on the scheduled day must contact the instructor before the scheduled exam. If the absence is excused, the test must be taken BEFORE the next class session. A grade of ZERO for that exam will be recorded if this policy is not followed.

There will be no make-up for missed quiz grades. The lowest Quiz grade will be dropped at the end of the semester.

      MANDATORY TUTORING POLICY:

      Criteria:

      • Cumulative course average falls below 75 percent.
      • Students required to attend tutoring sessions remain in the course on a probationary status from week-to-week. Refunds, if any, are per established Amarillo College policy.

      Requirements:

      • Each week attend at least one, 1-hour session in the tutoring lab until cumulative course average is 75 percent or higher.
      • Students will be counseled to drop, or receive an “F” for the course,  if satisfactory progress is not made (as evaluated by the course instructor and/or tutoring personnel)
      • Failure to satisfactorily attend tutoring sessions results in automatic dismissal from the course (as evaluated by the course instructor and/or tutoring personnel).
