Prerequisites

Prerequisite: Open to any licensed physician, LVN, RN, paramedic, AEMT or EMT

Course Description

Theory and skills necessary for the management of pre-hospital trauma emergencies as specified by the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) guidelines.

Student Performance

\ At the completion of this course, the student will have demonstrated sufficient mastery of the course objectives, listed at the beginning of each text, to effectively assess and manage prehospital trauma patients. It is desired that course goals be accomplished to the extent that the student’s final grade is not less than a grade of “C” as evaluated by the program faculty. A final grade less than “C” will result in failure of the course.

Skill Evaluation = 15% of final Average
Final Exam = 85% of final average

Grading Scale:

A = 90% and up
B =80% to 89.9 %
C = 70% to 79.9%
F =Below 70%

\ 100% attendance is necessary for successful completion of this course due to the short duration of the course.

\ Therefore, it is the responsibility of the student to attend class.

\ Also, students are not automatically dropped from their class roster as a result of nonattendance. It is therefore the responsibility of the student to officially drop or withdraw from a course through the registrar's office. Failure to officially withdraw may result in the student receiving a grade of "F" in the course.

\ NOTE: The Texas Education Code stipulates that students attending Texas institutions of higher education for the first time fall 2007 and later may not withdraw from more than six courses during their academic career, including courses from which transfer students have withdrawn at other Texas institutions of higher education.
