PHED-1271-002 Personal and Group Trainer Certification
Corequisite: PHED 1123
Designed to prepare students to become personal trainers and group trainers. Upon completion, students will be prepared for employment as a personal trainer and group trainer. Certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and Aerobics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) are optional.

\ During this course you will learn a myriad of information to help prepare you to become a qualified fitness professional in the fitness industry. This course is established to help students prepare to take and pass the NSCA-CPT (National Strength and Conditioning Association – Certified Personal Trainer) exam by learning the following:
\\ 1. Exercise sciences such as bioenergetics, physiological responses, adaptations to aerobic endurance training, and structure and function of the muscular, nervous, and skeletal systems.
\\ 2. Initial consultation and evaluation, exercise technique, and program design.
\\ 3. Work with clients who have unique needs.
\\ 4. Safety and legal issues for a personal trainer

\\ As a result of this class a student will be proficient in exercise prescription and delineation of exercise programs for a variety of clients from a variety of backgrounds.

Students who do not finish the course and who do not formally drop the course through the Registrar’s Office will receive a grade of F.

MAKEUP POLICY: There are no make ups allowed for missed classes.

REQUIRED EXAMS:
\ Quiz #1 = 10% of final grade
\\ Quiz #2 = 10% of final grade
\\ Midterm = 20% of final grade
\\ Quiz #3 = 10% of final grade
\\ Quiz #4 = 10% of final grade
\\ FINAL EXAM: Final exam = 30% of final grade
\ Attendance is highly recommended. Attendance will comprise 10% of the students final grade. In addition class discussion is encouraged to improve the learning environment. Some light activity will be expected for demonstrational purposes.
\ The Instructor reserves the right to change the syllabus and/or the calendar if needed.

\ STUDENT ID CARDS:
\\ Students MUST use their AC College IDs to gain entry into Carter Fitness Center. Students are allowed three entries without IDs, after three no-card entries, you will not be allowed into the gym/class until a new card has been purchased.
\\ LOCKER POLICY:
\\ Lockers will be rented beginning at noon on the third class day of each semester on a first come first served basis. Lockers must be paid for on a semester by semester basis because of the limited number of lockers available. Lockers must be cleaned out by the announced due date. Items left in the lockers after this time will be placed in the lost and found. The center lockers may be used on a daily basis only with no fees. All areas of the fitness center are available during the open times.
