Course Description

Advanced word processing techniques using merging, macros, graphics and desktop publishing. Includes extensive formatting for technical documents. This course is designed to be repeated multiple times to improve student proficiency.

    \ OBJECTIVES AND GOALS OF COURSE:   The student will continue to apply basic knowledge/skills of word processing using Microsoft Word 2010 and will learn the following:  inserting images, shapes, and WordArt; creating/enhancing tables and charts; sorting and selecting; managing lists, shared documents, page numbers, headers, and footers; inserting and customizing Quick Parts; customizing AutoCorrect, Word options, and themes; formatting with styles; protecting documents; inserting endnotes, footnotes, and references; creating indexes, specialized tables, and forms.

    \ By the end of the semester, the student will be able to satisfactorily complete all of the Learning Outcomes (Minimum Competencies) with a competency level based on the completion of required examinations administered under the supervision of the instructor and evaluated according to the instructor’s grading scale in the Office Administration Department.

    Expected Student Behavior

    \ Plagiarism, Cheating and Individual Work Ethic: The Amarillo College policies and Code of Student Conduct is strictly adhered to when dealing with plagiarism, cheating and duplication of work product. Any evidence of plagiarism, cheating or duplication of work product will result in a zero on the project or test in question.

    Grading Criteria

    GRADING SCALE:  See course schedule.  Course grade:  90-100 = A; 80-89 = B; 70-79 = C; 60-69 = D; <60 = F

    PRODUCTION TESTS:

    Production tests will be graded as follows:

                                                                                        0   errors = 100
                                                                                        1   error   =   85
                                                                                        2   errors =   75
                                                                                        3   errors =   65
                                                                                        4   errors =   55
                                                                                        5+ errors =   50

    There are no incompletes in this class.  There is no “extra credit” to be earned.  There are no make-up production tests for any reason. 

    Students will receive a “100” on all assigned homework submitted by the deadline if the work is completed satisfactorily.  Points will be deducted for missing exercises/assessments.  Ten points per week will be deducted from the grade for any work submitted after the deadline.  Students are encouraged to read/apply the instructor’s comments when making corrections to homework to be better prepared for tests.

    Chapter exercises and assessments are due the Tuesday after they are assigned.  Chapter exercises and assessments that are not submitted by the deadline will have ten points per week deducted.  Look ahead at your Course Schedule; work ahead to turn assignments in on time.

    Please label your chapter exercises and chapter assessments properly.  Staple all printed material assigned for that chapter (exercises and/or assessments) together.  On the top sheet in the top right corner, key your first and last name; on the next line, your class (AWP); on the next line, the exercise number or assessment number.  At the top right corner of each exercise or assessment, you must key that exercise or assessment number.

    Chapter exercises and assessments are to be placed in my box labeled: CARGILL (located in back in BYRD 212).

    There are four (4) production tests.                                                                                  

    Attendance

    Employees in the business world are expected to be at work promptly each day; therefore, students in business classes are expected to be in class promptly each day.  This class meets twice per week.  After two absences for any reason, one point per absence will be deducted from the semester average.  There are no excused absences. Three tardies equal one absence.
