Course Description

This course provides a survey of economic systems, forms of business ownership, and considerations for running a business. Students will learn various aspects of business, management and leadership functions; organizational considerations; and decision-making processes. Financial topics are introduced, including accounting, money and banking, and securities markets. Also included are discussions of business challenges in the legal and regulatory environment, business ethics, social responsibility and international business. Emphasized is the dynamic role of business in everyday life.

\ This course is designed to provide you with an overall picture of business operations.  It includes analysis of specialized fields within business organizations and identifies the role of business in our modern society.

\   At the end of the semester, the student must have completed all examinations with a minimum of 60% competence. All examinations will be conducted under the supervision of the instructor. Examinations will be handed back for review by the students but will not be retained by the student.

Expected Student Behavior

Students are expected to follow all Amarillo College policies and procedures, as well as any policies given by the instructor.

If you are unable to complete this course you must officially drop this course at the Registrar’s Office. The student must initiate withdrawals for nonattendance. Failure to do so will result in a grade of “F”. The last day to drop this class with a grade of “W” is APRIL 23, 2015.

Grading Criteria

The course grade will consist of three major examinations and a final examination.  Each of the three examinations and the final examination will count one quarter of the total grade.  No other grades will be given for this course.  The instructor reserves the right to subjectively influence the final grade of the student relative to class attendance, student participation in class, and student attitude while involved in the class.

Only one examination may be made up and it must be made up within one week of the scheduled exam date unless special permission is arranged with the instructor in advance. The final examination cannot be made up.

Grades will be awarded as follows:

A - 89.5 - 100
B - 79.5 - 89.4
C - 69.5 - 79.4
D - 59.5 - 69.4
F -      0 - 59.4

Attendance

\  Regular class attendance is essential to successfully complete this course. Students must be in class on time ready to listen to the lecture, participate, and take notes.
