When your paintings are turned in, you will assist in hanging the exhibit. Pick up paintings when exhibit is taken down.
Paintings left by the end of the semester will become property of Amarillo College.
We will be busy, so don’t miss classes and don’t be tardy. There will be several hours of learning to paint, mix colors, prepare canvas, framing and hanging. You must work more hours than just in scheduled class time. You will need to come back to the class painting studio and paint. You may paint at home, but that does not excuse your from attending class. There are specific assignments and you must follow directions, do the research, preliminary work, and properly prepare the paintings for exhibit.
If you wish to have more freedow how and what you wish to paint, and not receive grades or course transferrable credit, you may change to “audit” or “continuing education” during the first week of the semester.
About the Sketchbook — we will make many required sketches and preliminary compositions done in your sketchbook. These must be shown and discussed with the instructor, and final color composition must be approved before a painting is started. You will have grades on sketchbook work. Sketchbook work includes: Thumbnail drawings, experiments on color mixing, many small black & white and color compositions, and lots of notes. We will be learning making canvas stretchers, stretching canvas, framing, using D-rings, painting textures, and the proper ways of hanging and exhibiting paintings. We will cover historical and contemporary artists, painting titling and descriptons, artist statements, displaying and art marketing. You should also scrapbook images from other artists.
